Hi All,
Staying at the Tailers Hall Hotel, 139 Cowgate for 2 nights in a couple of weeks and would like to know what is the best option for getting there from the airport.
10 adults arriving at about 4 pm on wed 22nd march.
Would it be better to catch airlink bus and if so what stop do we get off and how far is the walk to the hotel or should we catch 2 or 3 taxis and what would the approx cost be of the 2 options.
Also any advice on things to do and any good pubs that serve good reasonably priced food and drinks.
Thanks.......

Problem arriving at that time is that it is rush hour in Edinburgh. The airport into town road is particularly busy, but the buses and black taxis can use the greenways to make the journey quicker.

The bus is £3 single and £5 return.

You would get it to Waverly Bridge and then walk (approx 5-10 minutes up and then down hill)

5 would fit in taxi (luggage would go in front or on top of you in back) take you right there and cost no more than £20.

I would personally go for the taxi option since you are splitting the cost 5 ways twice.

Edin airport is under extensive extension work just now, but there is a designated taxi rank, which I think is completely under cover from the terminal so would be easy enough to get two.

Look at the other threads on this board for things to do and places to eat

    Have a great time !

But can you get a taxi at Edinburgh airport. I don't think they are allowed to pick up unless pre-booked so private hire would have to be your option.

No, this is not the case. There is a designated rank of black cabs ready for the public to pick up easily. Tourists flying in from abroad would not be able to pre book cabs, therefore they are all public ones on a first in the queue gets in the first cab basis.

I stand corrected Alison. My friend the taxi driver tells me the rules have changed since I last flew home. There is now as you say a designated rank for about 20 black cabs. Hope Gadger gets one and has a great stay.

You can prebook. Just phone a local company (we always use Festival Cabs) and they pick you up on the ground floor of the multi-storey carpark. Festival have 7-seaters I think.
