son just about to apply for a provisional licence. i will need to change my car as its group 10.....i remeber reading on here a post about the different groups ( low) of different cars. I have been told thats it much more expensive for boys of 17 than girls so need to keep the group down as low as i can....But i also have to drive the car being an old mum of 40 odds.....Is there such a car , that will keep us both happy and cost the earth to insure and run ?????? lol
Thanks

I have heard that Hughes Insurance are very competitive but have a few quotes ready before you do one online with them. They will ring you and haggle. I got a great quote from them this year.0

theres a thread on the Norn Iron board already about Car Insurance, I would try Endsleigh and Surequote and see if your current insurer will match or beat both thoseNorn Iron Club Member #64

I've just renewed my insurance with my 17 year old son on the policy. I'm driving a Peugeot 206 deisel. The road tax is £35 per year and the cheapest insurance I could get was with the Post Office £788. It was cheaper to use the price comparison site as going directly through the Post Office would have cost £850.Member #7 SKI-ers Club

May be worth checking out Direct Line Insurance, all named drivers qualify for no claims bonus on the policy;) may be of some help to your son if and when he buys his own car to have had a few years NCB of his own.
They are extremely competitive on price too:TI am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
I started a thread on low fuel consumption vehicles (which are generally low in insurance). Quite a lot of information came from the thread, including depreciation value, etc. Usually you can avoid that headache by buying second hand cars.
good luck!0
