LIVE PREMIERSHIP FOOTBALL BUT NOT ON SKY

I have a satellite dish and a free to air receiver picking up programmes from the Hotbird satellite. I understand that by changing my receiver to one that can take viewing cards (like the SKY box), I could be watching premiership football through subscriptions cheaper than SKY
I've heard about some Arabic Sports channel. Has anyone done this and is it cheaper than the £38 SKY want each month? Are the same matches shown that are on SKY?

Im not a football fan but i know Multivision show football matches on weekends. I get it through PC based satellite card, much of the encrypted stuff can be watched by downloading the appropiate software to decode the streams. This is not ileagal as there is no subscription service for these channels in this country.
As for other channels there are a multitude of film, music, sport, etc available on Hotbird.
There are a few other options for you to if you have fixed dish, such as a monoblock LNB. This would enable you to pickup of 2 different satellites, such as Hotbird (13 east) and the old Astra (19 east).
If you want to go one further and your receiver is Diseq enabled then you could buy a motorised dish and move around to other satellites.
Theres lods of TV guides on the web for all the European satellites. You could watch a different channel every day for years to come,0 -

PC based satellite card???
Could you please explain what that is and how it works??
Also - where do you get the software to decode the streams and is it free??
Ideally I'd like to be able to watch cricket carried by foreign stations e.g domestic channels in Asia and Australia"To be ignorant of one's ignorance is the malady of the ignorant." Amos Bronson Alcott0 -
Seems we are having 2 discussions on the same subject here London man.
A PC based sat card is basically a sat receiver that plugs into your PC, can be USB, PCI. I have the Skystar 2 which costs around £60. Software i use is ProgDVB and can use it to watch and record the streams you are watching.
I use the TV out from my graphics card to be able to watch on my TV too., so basically using the PC as a sat receiver/decoder.
As i mentioned in my other post the skystar 2 can also control a motorised dish to move around to other satellites. Im sure you will find the cricket on one of these0 -

Hehe - yeah lets keep the discussion just here.
But the PC card seems really cool - so I can just buy a motorised dish and hook it up to this card in my PC?? And that's all I need??
Of course I'd need to re-position my PC near the dish? Current Sky Digital dish is on other side of house (garden) and my computer is on front side of house....or perhaps get a wire long enough to go over the roof and into my room??
Anyway this motorised dish stuff seems really exciting - especially if all I need is this card and a dish.
Is this the card you mean:

Also - you mentioned on the other thread that you will be getting a motor for your dish - let me know how it goes!
Wish there was a forum for beginners on this as it seems very 'heavy' but exciting!
If I can watch sports through this then I'm sorted!"To be ignorant of one's ignorance is the malady of the ignorant." Amos Bronson Alcott0 -
Yes thats the card I have, its a very good card, and combined with the right software can get loadsa channels.
Shouldnt need your PC that close to the dish, I have quite long run of cable between mine and its fine.
Also, do you have clear view east and west from where your dish is now? Your prob going to need a good view between 40 degrees east and 40 degrees west to pick up a good range of sats.0
