Good foundation recommendation please!

I am in need of a good foundation. I have really oily skin and even by mid-morning it feels like I've got nothing left on my face  . I keep blotting with mattifying powder, but I end up with it clogging my pores and you can see it sitting on the surface.

I don't mind investing in a good brand, as long as I know it'll work!

Don't you just love having oily skin (that in my case seems to still think I'm a teenager!!!)

I find that clinique superfit suits me quite well as it's not too heavy, but still gives decent coverage. I also found that, despite the oily skin, finding a good moisturiser which suited my skin made a huge difference to how long my make up stayed put.

What sort of moisturiser do you use? I've been using Olay for sensitive skin for years.

I went into a department store the other day and was given some free samples of Clinique Superfit - they couldn't give me the right colour samples, they said 'try these, come back and we'll match your colour for you' ie try and make you buy it! I just wanted to be sure it's the right one before committing.

I use Clinique Superdefense moisturiser ( for oily/combination oily)

    http://www.clinique.co.uk/templates/products/sp_nonshaded.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CAT1038&PRODUCT_ID=PROD92340

I also find the dramatically different moisturising gel quite good, I tend to alternate between the two depending on how my skin is feeling.

'd maybe try popping into somewhere else with a clinique counter to see if you can get the right shade to test. Boots have just finished a bonus time that included a small superfit so you might have more luck getting a tester in there.

(p.s. I'm not old, only in my 20s so don't need the anti-ageing bit yet, but I find it suits my skin!)

Hi, Estee Lauder doublewear is amazing and at the mo if you go down to their counters (have a look at their website) they will colour match you and give you ten days worth of foundation to try out. I tried this in London and the young lady was really nice and gave me a few tips on other parts of my make up too!!!

Well worth the effort I'd say, as long as you're happy to pay £23.00 which may seem steep for a bottle, however if you use a foundation brush it will last ages!! Must be honest I have had it before and found it great, tried to save money buying cheaper and am now converted- this will be my one and only luxury make-up wise ;)

I too have very oily skin, or i did. I have been doing the ocm for a month and no more oily skin, its amazing (theres a thread on here for it) give it a go you wont be disappointed.

Anyway back to the question, i use mac studio fix and el double wear, i second using a foundation brush, but i always use a primer under it as well, it lasts all day and no shine.

If your interested in el double wear, try the shades in store, and theres a lady who sells it on e-bay for 312.50, its decanted into a glass bottle, it is real and half the price.

    Hope that helps.

Seraphin, I discovered the OCM thread last night. It sounds amazing. I've bought a travel bottle from Tesco to decant it into. Their muslin's well expensive though. At least I think it's expensive - I've never bought it before! It was in the baby section - 6 sheets for £4something. I also asked about castor oil, they do sell it, but were out of stock. any ideas on where to get cheap muslin?

I'm going to boots tomorrow, so will try and get some samples of the Superfit and Estee Lauder ones.

I've got No7 Under Make-up base stuff in a white tube. I've been using it for years. This stuff is really good, but I find I have to put it over the base or use no base as it drys the skin so much I can't make base glide on smoothly over the top. I use it on my forehead as I've never been able to get base on up there properly !

You dont need to use muslim a face cloth will do, i use muslim from my days of liz earle clean and polish, but i do use face clothes as wel. the important bit is the oil used and really massaging it into your pores, the cloth just lifts the oil and dirt off.

Good luck, let me know how you get on. I use castor oil and jojoba oil (the jojoba oil if fab used on your skin and hair as well, bought off a supplier on e-bay)

    Hope that helps
