negotiating with hmrc about income tax arrears

hi,does anyone know how open to negociation the hmrc are about paying back income tax arrears,my partner owes from the last 3 years (aroun 7-10 thousand pounds) ,they are threatening bancruptcy,he only has about £2000 to give them now and was hoping to pay the rest over time ,i have read that as a general rule no more than 3 years is acceptable,does anyone have any experience or knowledge of this?

They are the worse people you can owe money to.They would think if he has struggled to pay tax for the last 3 years then how much chance as he got of paying them back in the future.They have started to operate more of a zero tolerance policy recently.You best seeking legal advice.0
