A Tory MP claimed almost £100,000 of taxpayers' cash for a second home while building up a property empire.
James Clappison (above) owns 22 houses which he rents out yet has pocketed £97,892 in Commons allowances intended to pay for a second home. Labour MP Ian Gibson blasted: "Some folk have so much money they simply don't need a foot up from taxpayers."
Mr Clappison, the MP for Hertsmere, Herts, claimed the cash for seven years. He has not broken Parliamentary rules.
More than 130 MPs are believed to rent out at least one property and Margaret Beckett is the latest Cabinet name highlighted.

The Housing Minister claimed the second home allowance while living in a grace-andfavour apartment and collecting rent from another property. Chancellor Alistair Darling and Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon have been slammed for doing the same thing. All insist they have not broken Commons rules.
Commons Leader Harriet Harman promised " big changes" on pay and perks to restore public faith when the Committee on Standards in Public Life reports later in the year.
Hackers yesterday linked a Home Office website to a Japanese !!!!!! page. The stunt follows Home Secretary Jacqui Smith's claim for two blue movies.

Yes, I totally agree, there was talk some time ago about expenses, and they had a chance to regularise things then.

Nevertheless, another MP with his snout in the trough and contrary to the spirit of working for, and with the public, in mind. Appalling!

    On Number 10s website.

    If they let you.

You have to word it right, something like

"We the undersigned demand the immediate execution of all MPs......."

To be fair though Tory members are a better class of person than the Labour lot. I can understand someone of a higher class needing 20 odd homes, I myself have several bases around the country, but why the Labour wannabees need more than one I have no idea. It's not as if they do anything other than watch !!!!!! and dream up taxes.

    I don't get this.

Why does the story say "while collecting rent from another home".

Why des it not say "while collecting rent from his second home"?

He has 22 houses, and they just say "collecting rent from another home". Something doesnt add up here, and looks like some spin has been used to imply something?

The Housing Minister claimed the second home allowance while living in a grace-andfavour apartment and collecting rent from another property. Chancellor Alistair Darling and Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon have been slammed for doing the same thing.

Alistair and Hoon were slammed for collecting rent from the SECOND homes. Not just "a" home. So not the same thing.

Tha labour bloke, Ian may aswell say that because a tesco lorry driver has a 300k inheritance, he should pay for all the fuel to transport the tesco goods from warehouses to stores, instead of the company paying the fuel. It makes no sense.
