We only have ourselves to blame for the lack of a gb car industry.
We watched our makers go the way of the dodo , and hastened it by !!!!ing petrol on the flames by purchasing foreign ones.
HMG should have went the way of the french and got some money into lag Jandorver , mg and rover... well f you can do it for the banks??
I am though going to buy a brindian car next , a Jaguar xf.Upgrading from my 1yo toyota to a xf is as big a leap as you can get , my avensis though is brit built I think.
What would we have said if hmg became a partner rather than letting JLR go masala?Would it have been the same reaction as the banking bailouts?
Tata just dont know how sweet a deal they got , or perhaps they do.The new direction of jaguar has brought in new younger buyers , the new hardware is as good as any of the germans of the same price bracket ie 5 series v xf.The xtype was a old mondeo for a premiun for luxury and the badge , the s type and xj just too unimaginative and stuck in the past.
If jag are reading you did right with the xf , living in the past didnt work , evolution has worked now do the same with the rest.
My dealer tells me there is at least a three month wait for a xf in my variant , so theres at least one production line getting work somewhere.Have you tried turning it off and on again?0 -

Do tongue in cheek comments always pass you by? In the words of Daniel Hannan, I have to tell you that you sound like a Brezhnev-era apparatchik giving the party line."I'm not even supposed to be here today."0 -
I have just bought used a Japanese sports car.
Nothing to do with the topic, just wanted to tell someone.
Congratulations.
In that case I shall use your post as an excuse to share that I am very excited as I have also paid my deposit to upgrade my British made MINI for a faster one. In Blue :j
All I can do on this board is undermine relatively intelligent threads.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I felt quite offended when I heard my nine year old Audi diesel would be old enough for the proposed scrapping scheme.
I bought it at five years old, when it had already done 65% of it's depreciating (and 70,000 miles). It's now got 115,000 on the clock and the leather's just getting nicely run in. I'm expecting to get another 80,000 miles and 8 years out of it and maybe more. Oh, and it passed it's emissions test in the MOT with flying colours and is pretty economical too.
Buy new - not likely!0 -
It's a waste of time here.
The difference between 2500 euros and the new car in Europe is much smaller than the diference between £2000 and the price of a new car here.
This is something thats rarely mentioned, yet on the BBC it was stated that you can buy a brand new car for 5000 euro's there. So you only need to stump up another 2500 euros, its basically a half price car.
Here, you would get your 2k, and then have to stump up a further 5k for the same car as they were using in germany.
So the differences are pretty big between the two schemes. Cars are much more expensive here and the money you got for your car here under this scheme would have to be around £3600 to have the same impact here as in Germany.0 -
like to see you try buying a new car in germany for €5k.
what we really need to do is sell all of our new cars to germans, then we get the benefit of their economic stimulus package, for free.0 -

That's what someone in the industry was saying! They were explaining why the same system would not work here.0 -

err. is that not about 10 years ago graham.
I think recently on echange rate terms I belive a lot of cars are now cheaper in the UK than abroad. I saw an article on it late last year.
Also what car is 5000 euros in germany?0 -
If you could get £2k cash for scrap who is going to sell you a car for £700?
Before everyone goes out stockpiling older cars I read on another forum you have to have been the registered owner of the car for 2 years to be eligable.
Actually, it will probably take us 2 years and a massive IT project to get the scheme off the ground compared to our mainland european friends.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep
& Choo Choo for trains!!0
