Changing name by deed poll confidentiality

I have a few debts in past adresses from 5 years+ which i stupidly let my partner put my name down for bills so i could help pay, i wasnt living with her at the time just helping out where i could with finances for the children.
I applied for a passport last year and all of a sudden these past debts followed me to my new address and were added to my credit file. Im not trying to escape them i will deal with them when i get back on my feet but im living back with my parents and they dont want a black mark under their address so im wondering if i change my name by deed poll and move address fresh start, when i change these details will the ips give out the details of these changes yet again?

If your name was on the bill you are liable for them, they dont know you wernt living there, you shouldnt have let her put you on. You need to pay these debts, hiding and changing your name isnt going to anything, they will catch up with you.
The whole 'black listed address' is a myth, the debts are personal to you and as long as your parents aren;t connected to you on their credit files it shouldnt be a problem.
If you are BR adn these date before you BR then you can add them in, just tell the OR, if not then you really need to pay them, or arrange some kind of payment plan if you cant pay it all at once.
Sorry if thats not what you wanted to hear.0 -
Unless you completely change your name and fall off the grid for about 7 or 8 years by not paying any bills, not signing up for anything, not paying by card and not travelling anywhere where you need your passport, then it will follow you around.
I wouldn't suggest it - can you imagine all the hassle it would put you through? Far more than bankruptcy would, I would imagine...BR 08/04/09 | ED 02/10/09| BSC 255

plus....your old credit file would be linked to your new name anyhowWe all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0

You'll have to specify previous names when applying for credit etc anyway - so it will get tied back to you - so unless you're prepared to start committing fraud left right and centre, there's not really much point.
If there was a legal way to just change your name and forget about your debts, a lot of people would be doing it...0 -
don't put it off any longer, sorry but it sounds like you don't want to pay the debts or can't pay,if this is the case admit it to yourself and get it sorted by going BR or paying them etc cos if after 5+ years you haven't paid them, changing your name THEN paying them I think is not going to happen, which will leave you forever looking over your shoulder.0

Hi
if neither you or ex have paid anything towards these debts for more than 6 years, then they are statute barred anyway. The exist but are not enforceable in a court of law, as per the law, the courts and the OFT. It is 5 years in Scotland. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

Isn't this only the case if they have not tried chasing you for them for six years either? Eg if you have moved, but not updated your address and they have been sending letters to old addresses etc, the statute bar does not apply.
I still maintain it's not a good thing to do though - as sniggings said I think it's better to face up to it now rather than constantly wonder when/if it's going to catch up with you.
Cheers

to be honest the change of name isnt to do with my debt, i allowed a family member to use my bank account only to find out the money being payed in wasnt erm "kosher!" next thing theres a fraud mark on my profile..meaning no bank or credit institution will take me on anywhere there are 2 choices and either one doesnt benefit me in any way!0
