Weekend Work?

If you are looking for a part-time job, it is worth looking at the job ads in the local paper to see if anything comes up. And keep an eye on the windows of local shops - vacancies quite often get posted there. If you don't mind cleaning, you could always try domestic cleaning or evening/early morning office cleaning.
When it comes to web development work, you could have a look at the various agencies around (freelanceuk, guru.com, noagenciesplease, elance). I've never tried getting work through them so I don't know how easy/difficult it is, and I don't suppose it is very well paid.0 -

keep an eye out on the gumtree websites or tnt websites for extra work! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Hi Everyone. Thanks for your great advice. I went into the local Sainsbury's but was told at the customer services desk that they had no vacancies. He didn't even offer to keep my application on file. I will try again another day.
Good ideas about advertising on leaflets. I'll give that a shot. Someone in another thread suggested selling services on Ebay so I might try that, too.
This weekend I am moving. I found a studio flat out in NW9 and talked the landlord down £22 on the rent, something I would not have attempted before I found MSE.
I love this site! It is going to be pretty tight for the next month or two. Living in the dumps I have been in so far, however, has made me so depressed I've thought of chucking it in and going back to Australia more than once. The new flat is clean and in good condition and there is a yard which the landlord said I was welcome to garden. The prospect of growing vegetables in London is lifting my spirits already. I loathe my current flat and flatmate so much that I occassionally stay at work until late just to avoid going home.
I also did seriously consider moving north. A month ago I was facing redundancy, and had I not been able to keep my job I would have left London. There are so many great things about this city but just trying to survive here without my friends or family was making me thoroughly depressed. Scotland and Northern England are so beautiful.
Once again, thanks for the great advice. I will probably prepare an SOA in the near future and post it here, but as I am moving this weekend everything will be up in the air for a while.

Congratulations on your new flat and good luck with the move. I've lived all over the country and in London and believe that London is best for young travellors like you in terms of a varied social life, jobs and accommodation. It's also a darn sight warmer than anything north of Watford. Have you been socialising with fellow Aussies since you've been here? I always found them full of life and ideas and collectively seem to have all the good stuff sussed out. Glad you're enjoying being part of MSE.0

Hi Dora,
Actually, I haven't actively sought out other Australians because one of the reasons I came here was to learn more about the UK, its people, way of life and culture(s), as well as to explore some of Europe as well. There are so many fascinating things going on here that we never get back home, so much history, such difference, that it would be a shame to spend my weekends at the Walkabout getting liver damage with all the other working holidaymakers!'Everyone loves to read but it can be a real nuisance when you lose your place. Theres nothing wrong with living up North, not only is it cheaper but there is a whole community of South Africans living and working in Derby, I have yet to work anywhere here that hasnt got an Aussie or South African working for them. There is also plenty of work going if your not too fussy about what your doingI owe, I owe,
its off to work I go,
I work all day for f***all pay,
I owe, I owe, I owe :rotfl: :rotfl:

Correct!
I am Irish but live in Yorkshire & have done for over ten years - never had any trouble finding work & I have even made it on to the property ladder.
Which would have been unlikely if I had stayed in London!
Anyway good luck with the move Grimelda.Office Monkey0
