i heard i can somehow and it depends on the number of rooms i have in house??

For employees, there is a fixed allowance of £3pw for the use of a room at home, but your contract of employment must specify that you are home based. You need to write to your tax office to make this claim.

  • You can indeed claim for using your home for work purposes, particularly if, as Fengirl says, your employer has it in your contract that you are required to do so.

The HMRC rate of £3 is not actually a maximum limit, but claiming more than this would require detailed record keeping.

There has actually been a lot written about claiming for use of home as office (and there is some good guidance on AccountingWeb for this, as well as on HMRC's website). In essence you can indeed claim a proportion of your household bills. I suggest that you look on the websites I mentioned abover and I'm sure you will find what you need.

The lcd monitor however isn't an expense, it would be a capital allowance in which case you could potentially write off a proportion of it per year (20% if exclusively used for buisiness).

If you work for someone else, shouldn't you be claiming your phone line rental and new LCD back via your payroll??

Cazza is correct. HMRC may well query why your employer is not paying for these costs if they are really essential to your job.
