Avon for extra income

I have been thinking over the last couple of days that I may try selling for Avon to get some extra income. I was reading an article that this can be quite lucrative. I am facing redundancy in August, so want to pay off as much debt as possible by then.

Has anyone tried selling for Avon, have you done well with it or not? How do you get paid, is it a % commission?

I would welcome any advice you have.

Thanks
Peppa

I have done Avon before and to be honest I didnt earn a great deal. It is very hard to build up a big enough patch to get sales high enough to make a decent amount - you have to sell above certain amounts to earn your commission, which is difficult at first while you're building up your client base and can be difficult to keep up hope! Also, there is a pretty quick changearound in catalogues and as you have to buy them in, this can prove a little bit costly.

Have you considered any other kind of sales job like this? Perhaps someone who has done bettaware or any other catalogues can help you out with other companies :)

Hi Peppa. I am an Avon rep, although my daughter runs the round, places the orders and delivers etc - it's a way of her earning extra pocket money. There is a new campaign every 3 weeks and you collect the money in from your delivery and pay Avon the total less your commission. My daughter averages about £35 commission per campaign so not ever so lucrative ut great for boosing a 14 year olds pocket money. I think the way to really earn in to become a Sales Leader - you have to recruit other agents for this and then earn commission on their sales as well as your own

I've been an Avon rep for just over 2 years and have made a fair bit of commission just by selling to people in work. It can work for you but you need quite a few regular customers to make sure you order enough to get commission. I can't remember the exact figures but it's something like no commission for total order up to £60, 20% for between £60 - £120 and 25% for orders over that. If you decide to do it, (after establishing who your regular customers are and that they trust you not to run off with their cash) try and get into the habit of collecting the cash with the orders, not on delivery as you can be stuck with the bill while you wait for your customers to pay you.

I think the most important thing if you go with Avon or any similar company is to be 100% committed to it - the products don't sell themselves, and if you don't get out there and try to sell them you are in danger of not covering your initial investment.

And remember that Avon is not your only option - there are lots of other party plan / direct sales companies around, so speak to a few and find out the commission, initial investment needed etc. You need to be happy with the company, the products, the commission, and you need support from your up-line (the person who introduces you into the company/team leader). Check that the company you go with is a member of the direct selling association http://www.dsa.org/

    Hi,

Well last year i tried the Kleeneze catalouge to see how this works, and unfurtunatly my area was over subscribed as there were more than three of us trying to sell to the same people!

During this time my wife was doing Avon, she was given a set streets to work on (no compatition) and now regularly makes 80-100+ every three weeks. :j this is seving approx 150 customers and taking approx 30-40 orders.

this has inspired me, i am now joining Avon and becoming a sales leader via a very supportive group who regularly go out together to sign up new distributors.

if your interested why dont you PM me and i shall give you all the help i can.

I'm a rep & a sales leader and,as the others have said, don't rely on Avon for lots of money

I have a round of about 40 people plus friends & family & don't clear much more than a tenner a week

Being a sales leader involves knocking on doors trying to recruit new reps which i hate & you only get 10% of your rep's sales

I only stick to it as if doesn't affect the £20 a week earnings limit for my income support

I inherited a round from DS's GF who "couldn't bebothered" - I worked outwhat she was making would fund my annual skiing hioliday without going in to my budget. I have a good set of streets (makes all the difference) and also have 3 workplaces I sell in to - all Council offices, lots of ladies in there! I have about 25 customers from the streets of whom about 15 buy every time plus the workplace sales. I put minimal effort in to it and make about £50 - £60 each campaign. This will go up now as I have managed to infiltrate the 3 office workplaces! I did "go for it" once and made £130 so it is there to be had, I just play at it really as I have a F/T job and it was "uplanned".

Just be careful not to be your own best customer!!!
