Supermarket £1 fruit and veg

The supermarkets seem to be helping us all out in the credit crunch and actually putting fruit and veg on offer as well as the usual unhealthy stuff, by only charging £1 for certain items.
Now, I know that supermarkets are only there to make money, but are these offers actually value for money, or are they loss leaders to get you into the store in the first place, or do they dazzle you with bright red £1 stickers but actually if you bought them packaged slightly differently they would be cheaper? With a six-month old baby I don't have the time to compare prices for weight at the moment
Thanks for your help!

I think tesco's had the value mushrooms on for £1 last week and i found the 'normal' mushrooms on the shelf round the corner that were cheaper per kg.
By the way 'value' cucumbers have been more expensive that the normal ones for the last two weeks too.0 -
Normally it'll say on the shelf label what it works out per kg. Might be worth going online if you have time and have a look what things cost normally.
Got to say if its got a big £1 sticker I think its cheap, misleading.:j Baby boy arrived 22nd August 2012 :j

The supermarkets love people such as yourself who "don't have time to compare prices"! You are their perfect customer. Think about that the next time you are in the supermarket - do you want to be a little bit frugal or do you want to be a perfect customer?
