Dressmaking/Sewing how to create childs tie

My friends son is going to be a page boy and they have given her an adults tie for her 6 yr old to match the groom etc. Can anyone with sewing/ dressmaking skills give me advice as to how we can make the tie smaller (and still looking smart), yet still keep in proportion, ie how a tie is wide at the bottom and then comes in thin. Are there patterns or set dimensions for childrens ties?
Thanks

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. What sort of tie is it? If it's an ordinary tie, like a school tie that you need to make in the same material as the grooms tie, I would have a look in a charity shop and see if you can get one the right size for the little boy, then take it to bits to get a pattern. If it's more like a cravet style you could try cutting one out of an old piece of material untill you get the right size. Try cutting it 1" smaller all round to start with, then you can gradually cut a little bit more off untill it looks right. Hope this makes sense.0

i wouldnt cut it to make it smaller, just tie it using the thin end rather than the thick end, then tuck the thicker end into the shirt to hide it.
or there is a pattern on this site for a childs tie
