I was wondering does anyone know anything about credit reference agency's? I have had two different companies contact me about the sorting out my bad credit rating. They ask for about £70 and promise to return this if they cannot do it. They say that solictiors can do it for you but charge about £120 a hour. They say they can do it even if you still owe money is this true? Seems abit easy to me if anyone could let me knoe what they think or if they have used one of these services before? xx

Its a waste of time. Anything that can be corrected or removed legitimately can be done by anyone for nothing. If your credit record is bad but is an accurate report of what you have actually done with your finances, it cannot be changed legitimately. It is only rarely that a solicitor can do anything, usually involving disputed information.

They are a waste of money - I speak from personal experience. About 10 years ago, when I was in a terrible mess financially, I saw an advert for a credit repair company and paid £60 . It was a complete waste. There was nothing I could do to 'repair' anything. My credit report was awful, but accurate. This was pre-internet, pre-MSE days when information wasn't as readily available about what to do/how to see credit reports etc, but if your credit report isn't accurate, you can sort it for free by contacting the credit reference agency.

There was a whole section on getting CCJ's reversed/cancelled, but to be honest, the chances of succeeding were slim because it meant the courts and the company involved had to have done x,y and z wrong, and (although they may make mistakes) I don't think many people would have been able to have done anything much to help themselves.

totall waste of time it ie credit repair can be done your self updateing your details saying and getting a debt marked as settled ,haveing a post script put on your file why this debt occured etc etc so save your money reguards andrew
