CCCS / Barclays Bank Account

Hi Everyone

Been lurking for a long time and I am now in the process of setting up a DMP with CCCS.

I currently have my wages paid into my current account with barclays and also have barclaycard credit cards.

I immediately thought I would need a new bank account, however CCCS have advised me that I can ask Barclays to change my account into a basic bank account and that there will be no issues with barclays taking money from there to clear my barclaycard credit card.

Apparently they have a special arrangement with Barclays, and it does say this in the CCCS paperwork I have received.

I just wondered if other people who had their bank account with barclays did as CCCS advised, or just opened a new account with someone else just to be on the extra safe side.

Thanks

Hello and welcome to the group!!
I'm not a Barclays Bank Customer, but yes, when you do your CCCS Debt Remedy on line and then print off the approx 12 page document, it does say something about Barclays happy to let customers continue to bank with them as long as they change their current account to a new Barclays one as long as the account is properly run i.e no missed direct debits etc - sorry, haven't got the name or a link. :o As this is part of the CCCS paperwork, I'm sure it is all legit. Why don't you give Barlcays a call or check on-line for their T&C, and make sure there is no way they can take extra funds from this basic account, and what constitutes as the account being 'properly run'. Having looked at http://www.moneymadeclear.fsa.gov.uk/tools/publications/publications.html it looks like most basic bank accounts reserve the right to close your account if DDs/SOs bounce.

If you do decide to change to another bank, lots of people on this site speak highly of Nat West and the Co-op's basic bank accounts. Royal Bank of Scotland are also good. Depends of course on who your creditors are.

Hope this helps. Hopefully someone who has debts with Barclays plus a basic account will be able to advise further.

Best wishes and welcome again! :o
