  • I would just phone council about it - ours just send a letter at first highlighting the problem and most decent people respond and do something about the problem. I doubt your baby will be heard by as many people as this dog :)

You can complain to environmental health, but the noise has to be over a certain decibel level, they sometimes put a meter to measure the noise in your house, a dog - although an irritant would probably not be at a high enough level.

Have you tried speaking to the owner, would there be anything that could be done about the nice with regards to sound proofing (you house or theirs, is the dog inside or out, does it have a kennel, could this be sound proofed etc.)

nice = noise in my language!
  • Shoot the owners NO I'M JOKING. The owners of the dog clearly don't respect their neighbours so report them. Have you spoken to them about it if not Good just go and report noise as said my previous posters, as they will not know who has reported them.
    Good luck.

Maybe the dog is alone all day and bored? One of my dogs barks a bit to get me up, to feed him etc but other than that he is fine. But then my neighbour has a dog that incessantly yaps when its in the garden so I don't feel so bad.
What kind of dog is it - do you know?

but then if he/she's recently moved into the area, then it might be a bit obvious if a family moves into a house closeby and then a few days later the dog owners get contacted regarding the noise

    just a thought...

    but yeah, tricky situation.

oh, and 'a barking dog never bites' :p (some Monday morning humour ;))

As a dog owner who does have a dog that barks, not continuously however, that does not mean I do not respect my neighbour. My dog barks when she is in the garden - we have two dogs and she barks until the other dog plays with her. I go out and tell her off for this and she stops, but if she starts again then she gets brought inside the house as punishment for a while. They both bark whenever anyone comes to the door like the postman etc. or at other dogs they can hear or even one of our dogs gets excited when he hears children playing in the next few gardens along and barks.

Our dogs still bark and someone is at home with them all the time, so there may not be a lot you can do. As for kennelling the dog outside in the garden, this may just lead to some rather loud howling on the part of the dog and more barking as the dog will hear more unusual noises outside & respond, even other dogs barking in the distance may set the dog barking.

Whatever happened to just going to next door and talking to the neighbour about it?
It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.
  • Have you tried talking to the owner of the noisy dog? If not, you should talk to the owner. I know dog barking is really annoying  . Maybe the owner doesn't know about this coz he is always away from home  . Because most barking occurs while the owner is away, leaving the owner with a false idea that his/her dog doesn't bark at all. Dogs that tend to bark when their owners are gone often start up after the owner is far enough to be unable to hear, and stop minutes before the owner arrives at home.

I think this depends on if you know/have ever spoken to them - our was in the street back-to-back with us so we didn't know the people/how they would react so about 5 of us in our street contacted council and they were great at getting it sorted.
