Why so long to refund YOUR money

CSA Payments for my hubbys child should of stopped Sept 08, they were still taking the money from his DOE... informed the CSA that payments should of stopped Sept 08 as child left school and didnt go into further education, they checked and told him that CB was stopped Sept 08.... they have said that he has overpaid but it will take 3months for them to sort out.... why 3months? hes always paid the right amount that theyve told him to pay and is not in any arrears.... its beggers belief that it take them 7 days to set up the DOE and take money but when they owe it takes them 12 weeks... is there anyway that this can be stopped sooner than 3 months? the PWC will certainly not refund them the money to refund hubby so wheres the money gonna come from? (shes a drinker and that will be spent in the pub rather than on the child) its a shame coz that 3months plus the monies from Sept 08 could go towards the childs driving lessons and holiday for the child.....

At a guess, the 3 months is for assessing what is due to be paid for the remaining child from Sept 08 onwards, actual overpayment?

The overpayment will then be recovered from future payments. As nrp's are given up to 2 years to repay arrears, it may be that she is given up to 2 years to repay the overpayment from future payments.
  • Ah got ya Lizzie thanks... still seems a hell of a long time to do an assessment tho... the arrears for the overpayments are gonna build up more for another 3months then? so his youngest childs payments are going to be less then to counteract the overpayments, oh dear thats gonna go down well with the ex!!!!!

More than likely you will overpay for the next 3 months - I've always been at the opposite end, ie waiting for an assessment before I can even receive payments. The 'solutions' are the same though - you have to keep chasing for it to be done.

DH has been overpaying and still is whilst waiting for a re-assessment. He's been told that the overpayments will be refunded to him in a giro - but it will be in more than one payment if it comes to over £300.
