Alistair Darling (AKA Muppet No.2)

Alistair Darling:

Liar, incompetent or both?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7984014.stm

Chancellor Alistair Darling has admitted the Treasury got it wrong over the length and depth of the recession.
"The downturn since last autumn has been far deeper than people expected in any part of the world," he told the BBC's Andrew Marr Show."

well, so did the OECD, the IMF, and the consensus forecast from most economics talking heads six months ago.

I of course got it right, but I am a genius*

  • Yes the Treasury got its forecasts wrong. As did the EU the OECD the IMF, other governments, most economists etc etc.

lets have Darling flayed alive for clearly being incompetent by not predicting what noone else managed to forecast. Thank God we have George "Mystic" Osborne as a successor - the man who successfully forecast all of this.

Nah, I don't think you produced evidence of incompetance or dishonesty.

I am pretty sure if you look hard, you'll find evidence of both (he is a politician), but getting a forecast wrong... well... if anyone could predict the future, they would be busy outdoing Soros, not working in the treasury.

    HAHAHAHAHAHA

There you go again Mr Blears.

Loads of institutions have forecast NO recovery in 2009, and some are even forecasting that the recession will extend into 2010.

Get your facts right before you post

Are we comparing apples and oranges again? Last autumn - when Darling made his forecast - lots of people were forecasting a recovery starting late this year, including the IMF.

The reason why every forecast made has been woefully optimistic is that the recession has spiralled downwards at a speed noone could foresee. On Planet Wookster was the IMF forecasting decline and only Darling forecasting recovery? Was different here on earth.

I thought that Darling had got it right - didn't he forecast that this was going to go on and on and was then flamed down for being pessimistic?
