It's died. Its done well to last 5 years.
The best thing you can do is buy a new printer as a repair would cost too much.0 -
i don't understand- why did it die?. why won't the paper go through? how long should a printter/computer/monitor etc last?0

The life of any product depends on how it is used, maintained and the quality of the product.
I know compaines that are using Oki 320 and 321 microline dot matrix printers that are over 10 years old becasue the parts that fail (printhead mainly) are easily replaceable the gears on the rollers fail if people are over selous with the manual feed but apart from that they are a solid printer.
The older HP printers last for ages, really well built and thick plastic, the only roblem is that the inkwell where the head cleaniing fills up just keep it clean and they will work for many years my old deskjet 850 bought in 1997 still worked when I traded it in for a colour laser 6 months ago.
5 years for a printer that is really an oem HP printer made around 2001 isnt bad, the other printer from the time the 660 ect proberbly died a year ago.
Go buy another printer, its had a good innings if your so attached to it Im sure there are companies that will arange a funeral for it so you can go somewhere to remember the good times.
Dont buy a lexmark or dell printer, yes they are cheap but running cost are stupid as are the HP printers with the small carts a good quick relitivly cheap to run printer is the business inkjet 1000 from HP, seperate (large) ink tanks and heads everything cost about £23 to replace each part with a genuine HP but they are really good.0
