Or save a load more money by cutting out these middle men and purchasing direct from the DVLA at http://www.dvla-som.co.uk"I am not Geoff Vadar, I'm Darth Vadar"0

I haven't found the DVLA website to be cheaper on any reg I have searched for.
On average the DVLA were 10-15% more expensive before the discount for Regtransfers was applied.
Are the DVLA cheaper possibly on other things such as admin / transfer costs?Wedding Professional0 -
It might have changed but i know it used to be that the prices for the plates on regtransfers where quoted the same as on the DVLA site, but it didnt include transfer/registration to your car. That was £80 ish more and was added later.
The prices quoted on the DVLA were the total cost with no hidden extras. A mate got stung on it last year.0 -
Enter Stana not crimbo Stanta gives 10% off i think you will find0

You may find that Regtransfers charge the £80 transfer fee, and VAT on top of the CRIMBO price quoted.
The price on the DVLA site, is the flat price you pay, no extras. There are some cheap deals on there, especially if you look at the older marks.:j0 -
For any prefix number plates (eg Y123 ABC) or any new style plates (eg AB51 ABC) the DVLA have to be the cheapest as they are the source of the plates. All other companies like the ones mentioned don't own the plates they sell - they just act as a platform for seller.
Also, and this is the most important bit, if you were to go to a company like Regtransfers and tell them you wanted one of the above mentioned plates, they would simply go to the DVLA website, buy them for a minimum of £250 but usually £499 or more depending on what you have asked for and then sell it to you for a lot lot more -effectively, they make substantial profits by making a purchase on your behalf - and lots of people have been taken in by this for years (16 to be precise!). Some of these companies have nabbed all the good plates and sell them on for huge profits to those who just can't live without them!Bismillah0 -
My reg plate was substantially cheaper from DVLA than the other online personal reg sites. I paid £250 all inclusive for the one I have now, the same one from another site would've set me back over £400 including transfer ect..
I'm happy with the service ect, just miffed about the 0870 number needed to contact DVLA private plates section.0 -
I was wondering, there's a plate that's an 06 that my husband and I would quite like. Is it likely that when the 56 plates come out, it'll get cheaper? I don't know how these things work as I've never bought one before.
Also thanks everybody for the advice on getting them from DVLA - I always wondered how the other sites seemed cheaper!0 -
If your car is older than the 06 plate then you can't put it on your car cos it makes it appear newer than it actually is.0

Thanks! But the car's an 06 - it was a good MSE bargain: we looked for something 6 months old and (very long story related to b**ls up on the manufacturer's part) ended up with brand new with a 16% discount, so we were pretty happy.0
