If you tell me that i can go to an opticians, pay twenty quid or whatever for a contacts prescription, then go online and get them cheaper then fair enough.
But, strangely, opticians ain't too keen on doing this!
BECAUSE THEY HAVE A CAPTIVE MARKET!!!!
and, as for giving your eyes a rest....
what sort of timescale are we talking about for dailies? I tend to take sundays "off", but my mate wears his monthlies for pretty much a whole month, takes one day off, then starts again......
soooooo?!
I wish I could give you an answer...
Every person is different with contact lenses. Some patients really can wear the lenses every day for 14 - 16hrs a day without a problem... others can only manage 4 hours a day 3 times a week.... hence why you need to get advice. The new lens on the market at the moment... O2 Optix is designed for people who want to wear their lenses more rather than less. It quite honestly is the best for comfort and health on the market, in my opinion and also the opinion over 95% of my patients!
Your friend is probably wearing the over night contact lenses which are designed to be worn continuously for a month and then taken out. These are a soft lens but a completely different material to the daily lenses... allowing better oxygen permeability
I find the daily lenses are great for people who want less wear, ie sociallising and sports. They are better for convenience but most of my patients have not found them as comfy as the monthly lenses.
As for solutions Asda own brand are really cheap at about £3.50 - £4.00 a bottle. For complete convenience use their Peroxide one step solution as you do not need to rub the lenses and it keeps them really clean (make sure follow instructions as if not neutralised over 6 hours will sting on insertion)
There are multipurpose solutions which you can store and clean your lenses in some of these are sold as no rub but I have found they do not work any where as well as the peroxide solution if you do not want to rub.
I hope my comments have helped.
As for getting a copy of your contact lens prescription you should be gien one at the end of a paid aftercare.0 -

With the lenses by post I mean
The cheapest provider of glasses etc isn't actually Specsavers... It's Costco. Unfortunately they are membership onlyI have been for my eye check up and contactlenses fitting through them and have my follow up on thursday and I'll let you know the total cost when I come back. Just a normal check tho is about £10
SORRY D&A stopped issuing tesco clubcard points a couple of months ago now. They have now started issuing NECTAR points.0 -

maybe you can help me out on this one. i need to wear specs and have got stigmatism, but i went abroad and broke my specs on the beach so bought a pair from t local eye-centre (optometry). tho they are my own prescription strength , they do not count for stigmatism!
so will these new specs effect my eyes in any way, i have been wearing them for 3monts now, and seem to be ok ?? but like you said, i may not be symptomatic just yet??!!
2ndly (quick Q) like goggles4u which is a US site supplying specs, say they want the prescription details and INCLUDE A SECTION FOR STIGMATISM ETC, would these lenses be the "same " as UK specs then?
pls reply! thanx
Best thing to do is go into local opticians and ask them to verify the power in your specs is the power of your prescription... Explain you had them made abroad and you are a bit concerned they are not the right power.
I imagine they have been corrected abroad with astigmatism included but probably not told you... loads of patients come in with specs made abroad and I have never noticed astigmatism not corrected.
As for symptoms and damage. I am not so sure you cause damage to your eyes leaving the astigmatism uncorrected, usually you just cause a problem if your prescription is over corrected (wearing specs that are too strong for you) usually when astigmatism is not corrected you suffer with headaches or 'eyestrain' and usually cannot maintain concentration for so long, general fatigue when concentrating etc
Hope this helps0 -
When sticking something in my eyes I'd rather spend a little more, and have peace of mind, than go blind
Oh and that rhymes!!0 -
thanx butterwouldntmelt.
i will go and get them checked out at local opticians !
thanx for the reply!0 -
On a related point about specsavers including solutions- I find them really bad for not having in the solutions when I run out. They seem to never have any on Saturdays at my branch, which is very annoying. Also, you always get the cleaner and solution together, but end up with bottles of cleaner left over as they run out at different rates. Do they do a non inclusive deal so you could go to Asda for the solutions?0
