Guys I need your help!

Hi everyone

I bought some stewing steak from morrisons the other day, and suddenly had to go to the other end of the country to look after my cousins daughter. I have came back and this meat needs eaten today but with unpacking etc completely forgot to put a casserole in the slow cooker.

I have max 1 1/2 hours before the meal needs to be ready. What the hell do I make?

Help!! I've had a good search through the recipes but couldn't find anything that would work.

thanks!

    Hi,

Is there something else you can eat tonight?, the stewing steak really will be much better for a long slow cook, I think I would have something quick tonight, egg on toast or omlette, and start the steak off in the sc tonight for tomorrows dinner.

Stick it in a casserole in the oven...

Pre-fry for a few mins. Then add veg.

Move to casserole dish, add sauce etc.

Oven for 1hr ish at 200degrees

Pretty standard recipe, would be edible, but as it is stewing steak, it would taste better cooked in a stew, but a casserole is fairly similar!

Serve with mash or potatos etc.

    Hope it helps...
  • Will the steak be okay tomorrow though? The use by date is today and not trying to be a snob about dates but my dads good with meat and reckons it will be off by tomorrow and as I don't eat it I usually go with him.

It'll be absolutely fine tomorrow honestly. I go off the look, smell & taste of something before I decide if it's off - it very rarely is. I used to be paranoid about sell by dates but am not as bad these days. I reckon that if it's ok up to midnight today why won't it be as fresh in the morning ready to cook? The dates are useful but are often used by supermarkets to turn stock over quickly more than anything. HTH & enjoy your stew tomorrow it's making me hungry now :D

If it's been stored correctly it will be fine tomorrow. But as redruby says, why not do something else for tonight but start it in your slowcooker for tomorrow? That way you'll be cooking it on its use-by date and should satisfy everyone :D

You can always start it tonight - as long as the meat is cooked through. Then finish cooking tomorrrow.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • Okay, I'll be brave and make a stew in the morning for tomorrow's tea.

Thanks everyone. I only had food poisoning a couple of weeks ago(on my birthday) so a bit nervous about food hehe.

Meat doens't have a timer on it that the minute midnight passes makes it inedible. Shops always put a good "leeway" on the date so they are 100% sure that it will be ok on the date the label says, i often eat meat upto a week after the sell by date and i've never got sick from it.

If it smells ok and looks ok then it will be fine tommorrow honest.
