If you don't give them any personal details they can't do a credit search. So ask for quotes but make sure you don't give them name/address/DOB/etc

That's true if the query is done by the lender when you apply. However, if you or some broker simply makes a query of your record to review it, it won't affect your credit profile. Some brokers do give quotes without submitting an application and are therefore safe to use.

no one will give quote without credit checking you... they might give you a 'typical' estimate but it won't be a quotable quote.
