Paying in cheques

This may seem a bizzare question, but I was wondering if it is possible to send a cheque to a bank to pay it in.

What with banking direct, on-line banking, off-line banking, indirect banking :rotfl: . With a high street bank it would be possible I suppose, but there is of course no proof of deposit. BUT (that's a might big BUTT - Finding Nemo) how would you do this if you had a an on-line bank account (I don't have one).

In Barclays you used to have a paying-in machine that gave you a print-out proof of deposit, but now you just get a green light !!!

Any help gratefully received.

I've got an online account with Smile. You can:

Send cheques in the post to them, but no reciept.
Pay them in over the Post Office counter and get a reciept.
Take them to any Co-Op bank branch and either get a reciept if you show your card, or your paying in book stamped if you fill that in.

Personally I usually pay cheques in at the bank as they get keyed onto your account the same day so it clears quicker.
Here I go again on my own....

    Thanks becles,

Paying in over the counter is better, but if you are unable to get to a bank at lunch time, or like me you work full time. I can't be bothered waiting in a bank on a saturday (our local brach doesn't open on a suturday, so its a 6 mile drive).

And .... I so infrequently get a cheque, I just wonderwed if there was an alternative

    Thanks

It is not convenient for me to travel to my bank on the rare occasions that I get a cheque and I usually slip them in an envelope along with a paying in slip and post it to the bank. Always goes through ok, I have never had a problem getting the money paid into my account.

If you do choose to send cheques to your bank by post, as well as sending in a pre-printed paying in slip write your sorting code and account number on the back of the cheques. That way if the cheques and paying in slip become separated the cheques will still always find their way to your account.
