wedding help

hi

me and my partner of 6 years got engaged at Christmas. i have already brought my dress and announced are engagement .
i will probably have about 100 guests . my mum will be paying 2500 towards food . i know all the ins and outs of cutting back on costs like stationary cake and that.
i will also get wedding cars very cheap ,basically my friend paid 300 for the same car i get it for 80 .
my problem is i don't think i can keep costs low with all these guests . i live in London/Middlesex any suggestions?

im finding it so hard to see how it can be done nicely on the cheap .

I'm not entirely sure what you want help with.
You tell us mum is paying for the food, you know about cost cutting with stationary cakes etc. Can get a really good deal on a car, so what costs are the problem?
    Dress? Look at Milly/Landy
    Flowers? Ebay
    Tiara's? Ebay
As far as I can see the only thing you can't get cheap of ebay are men's dress suits.
Venue? Look on your local council website, you'll be surprised at how many places are licenced for weddings, go have a look.

I don't know what kind of advice you want specifically?

Even in London you should be able to feed 100 for the main meal at least with the £2500 your mum is giving you. Depending on the venue you may need to go buffet rather than sit down, but lots of people do that.
You are right though, once you have 100+ guests, the costs just start to mount up when you're multiplying everything by 100.
Perhaps try and find a venue with no or low corkage, so that you can provide your own alcohol (wine for dinner and fizz for toast); somewhere that doesn't insist on you having an evening buffet as well as the main meal would be good.
Basicallly find somewhere where you can have a lot of say in what happens and they don't try and push things on you.
It's probably too far for you, but we looked at Burchett's green in Maidenhead, it is the main building of the agricultural college, they were so so nice, it was one of the cheapest places we found but still really nice, and the girl there was really up for trying to save us money! We didn't go for it in the end as for our numbers we would have needed a marquee at the back.

You can trim your guest list - don't invite partners of friends, family whom you never see, work colleagues (except if you socialise outside of work with them).

Be really flexible about your venue, it's very easy to get carried away with the dream of what something looks like but you can easily make a cheaper venue look spectacular with your decoration. Consider silk flowers, I got all my flowers, including bridal party and table decs for £87. Ebay is great, for example, I got my underskirt for £15, it cost the lady £75, my veil with swarovski crystals was £7, it again cost the lady £70!!! Table vases I got for £10 and this included glass stones for around the vases, I love Ebay. My tiara was £5. Look in the sales for bridesmaids dresses and consider things you wouldn't think of as bridesmaids dresses, I got three pink dresses with black sashes from Debenhams for £12.50 each and paired them with boleros from Monsoon for a bargain price of £2.50 each, add to that a pair of heels from Priceless shoes at £5 and you have a total outfit for £20, so it's worth just being flexible and creative. Congratulations by the way!!!

  • I am getting married on a budget of £2000. We are having silk flowers, I have made the invitations, my dress and the bridesmaids dresses will be from Landy, the mens suits will be from Asda. We are getting married late in the afternoon, skipping the wedding breakfast and just having a buffet with a disco. Try and do as much as you can yourself, I am even making my own cake.
Good luck with all the preparations x
