Sonic Toothbrush

Hi

I feel like a bit of a scuzzer even writing this but wanted some thoughts - I am aware you should change your toothbrush every 6 months or when it shows sign of wear - however I have an Ultrasonex toothbrush and use it twice a day like a good girl - and for at least 2 minutes each time and the bristles are still stiff and at 90 degrees from the head after using the same one for over a year!!!

Given that I do give the head a bath in mouth wash overnight once a week and use a cover for it every night so bacteria isnt a problem, if the bristles are showing no signs of 'splaying' or weakness do I still need to change it?

Thanks in advance

I usually do this and make my toothbrushes last twice as long, given the price that they are to change.

    Hi

I may be wrong but if you put a cover on at night any bacteria will likely grow more as it's not getting chance to dry out? I would say if the bristles are ok it should be fine to use though.

I find my bristles on my electric toothbrush last twice as long as my manual brushes so I dont change them as often. I think this is because we dont use so much pressure when using them. And lest face it the price they are they need to last a long time

Littlemiss I have the same toothbrush as you and have had it for about 3 years only changed the head on it once. I am thinking of changing the head before I seen this thread it's best to buy the heads from ebay.

They do need changing a bit more often than that I'm afraid! Even if it seems OK, it will have gone very soft.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

most of them have blue wear indicators to let you know when they're worn out - mine go after about 6 months.

  • no wear indicators and still as stiff as when I bought it

Think I'll stick to a year - I've just changed this one and the bristles on the new one arent any different
