Thanks.
I just felt it was worth hammering home. Every once in a while on the boards, I read something that is posted as guidance that is so misleading that it could prove very damaging to people who follow it.
It worries me.0 -

Hi,
I signed on for the first time ever last week, left work for a variety of reasons which aren't for here.
The interview took about 30-45 minutes - 1 person checks the id you've brought, I spoke to a second person confirming the information completed during my telephone interview (I applied on-line) 3rd person went through the kind of employment I'm looking for and also advised me of a local council run centre to help me brush up my CV and gain an ECDL qualification as evidence of my computer skills.
The 3rd person advised me of my date and time for signing on, contact numbers if issue with signing on so can be re-arranged otherwise benefit is stopped. Also a sheet to show my advisor next time of the steps I'm taking to look for work.

Around half hour total, theres 3 forms to fill in - JSA, housing and council tax benefits - he will get his first payment 2 weeks after his signing day. The jobcentre will look for jobs for him on their system HOWEVER, DO NOT TELL HIM TO GO FOR ANY KIND OF JOB OFFERED! Some advisers in the jobcentre look for nightshift, part time and temporary work and these are pretty useless options, night shift can screw the body clock up for many years, part time has seriously low income and they will take the JSA from him if he agrees to more than 16 hours work per week including weekends, and temporary means going through the whole system again - some advisers don't give a hoot about your life.
so your advising this person to take advantage of the system?
its called JOBSEEKERS allowance for a reason, you might not like some of the jobs offered, but beggers cant be choosers.
if the adviser prints out the job you HAVE to apply for it, and yes they do spot checks, if you get found out that you havent applied for a vacancy youve had your claim will be closed down.0 -

Didn't know that the interview will take 30-45 mins. What exactly do they ask you (besides job related questions)?0 -

I only spent jan to march on JSA until i found a job again but the Jobcentre staff do not give a damn about helping anyone find a job.I would sign on once my name was called out and then start asking questions like can they look on the computer for me for recent vacancies or questions about training courses. They would turn around and say they have not got time for any questions or to help me so can i go and let the next person sign-on.They said they were only allotted 2 MINUTES for every person !0
