David LLoyds is causing anxiety

I wanted to cancel my David Lloyds after finding out an increase in price, and I could no longer afford it.
I was told by the receptionist to hand in a three month notice, so I did only to find out that as I was in my first year, I could not do this.
The only way I could cancel was either being ill or made redundant and no longer working.
Anyway I was made redundant from work, which left me in a difficult position and I could no longer afford my membership. I wrote to them and they said they would given me a freeze lasting 3 months, in that period I should find a job.
Now that that 3 months period is nearing towards the end, I have found no job.
I am going to see a member of the sales team and hand them letter explaining the situation. I fear that they could reject the letter, and make me pay.
Does anyone know what will occur?

Furthermore, David Lloyds has caused me enough stress. I am getting worried. I can not handle this.
I wanted to freeze the membership for the first month as it was the fasting period. I was told it was alright. Only to my surprise I found out that it was available for members in their first year and secondly that I had debt agency on my back.

I know it is my fault. David Lloyd is heartless company, I really do hope that they suffer and fail as a company. The membership team need to be sacked they hide behind the policy all the time.

    This is the cancellation policy:
You can end your membership at the end of your initial term by giving us at least one month's notice in writing. This means that your minimum commitment is to pay for the first 12 full calendar months of your membership. At any time after the beginning of the 12th calendar month of your membership, you can end your membership by giving us at least three calendar months' notice in writing."

yep i had this too when i was with david lloyd

    esporta do the same

it's a slimy business trick, tying people in ..shouldn't be legal in my opinion

hopefully someone more knowledgeable can help you sort this out

a 3month notice is unreasonable imo, but as normal companies like this go around doing as they please

    Thanks you map2000uk.
I went to see them, I come out a bit confused.
I have been told previously that the suspension was for three month ending at May.
But when I went there, I was told by a member of the sales team, that the suspension lasted until my contract ended. So not sure. I am gonna ring up on Monday and get a confirmation, hopefully it is the latter.

No idea about this but i would ask for any confirmation to be put in writing as you are getting conflicting answers.

My understanding is that you can freeze for up to 12 months, then you nly pay £10 when it is frozen. Will this work for you. i have just done exactly that . i have the contract here if you want to pm me

this is why id avoid companies such as esporta and daivd lloyd , greedy companies who try and do anything to get more money/stop you leaving

having tio give 3months notice to a GYM? is a joke

I was in a similar situation with Bannatynes (formerly Livingwell) although I was receiving medical treatment for an injury which meant that they eventually cancelled my membership. Now I'm fit and healthy again, I don't want to sign up for another year membership in case 2 weeks in I get a recurrance of the pains and can't go anymore and have to go through the wrangle of arguing over cancelling my membership.

Not that I would encourage you to lie, but if you have been seeing your GP about any medical issues........................

I'm sure this type of contract probably puts people off more than encourages them to join in the first place.
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!
