had e mail today saying I was the march winner of a 7 day holiday to the new lyngarth hotel in Blackpool only to find a least another 4 have posted the same win on the site if anyone goes with you they have to pay 50% I suspect this is a sort of promotional scam !!!!!
guess your only a winner if you go alone

I was one of the other winners. I am surprised that so many people have posted this win. On their website they show 2 winners for February but did say that they had increased the number of prizes. I have Emailed the owner/manager and found that for OH to go with me will cost £154 for accommodation and £6 for each evening meal as he hopes to still be running his current 2 meals for £12 offer.

I would not describe it as a scam but rather as a marketing strategy. This way they get some bookings and build some reputation. The pictures of the hotel on the site look OK but I guess I might ask someone who lives nearby to check it out a bit for me.

This hotel does appear on lots of sites covering accommodation in Blackpool but I have asked one of our members who lives in Blackpool to check this out. She has promised to go and take a look in a week or so. I for one will not pay a deposit for my OH until we get more info.

Does anyone know when they plan to go as it would be helpful if the first person to test the water as it were would pass on the experience to the rest of us. The cost is not that high but we would need to hire a car so it is not cash we want to throw away.

I have sent an Email to the Official Blackpool Tourism Website asking them to check the legitimacy of this hotel, comp, website etc and I will post any info I get. If I get no reply soon from them I will telephone them.

I have phoned the Tourist Information in Blackpool and the Blackpool accommodations officer but neither of them have been approached by the New Lyngarth Hotel for accreditation and there is no obligation for them to do so. So they knew nothing about the hotel or the comp. I guess we need to keep an eye on TripAdviser etc and see when people post reviews once it opens in August. And if any MSE people go and stay maybe they could let others know about their experience.:cool:

I have spoken to Trading Standards in Blackpool and the officer is going to look into this and go and take a look at the hotel to see what the situation is. I will post on here when he finds out anything.
