As tinned butter beans were getting so expensive I bought a big bag of dried from my Asian grocer. I cooked a large pot and froze them into portions but I froze the cooking 'juice' as well as the beans (bit like the tinned sort). I'm ready to make more now. How do you freeze them in bags? Do you drain after cooking then open freeze?

Yes, that's what I do. Drain, spread on a baking tray, freeze for half an hour then take them out and gather them all together into a bag, back in the freezer -free-flow beans;)
  • I love cooking dried beans, not only are they cheaper but I also find they are nicer. I too cook up big batches and freeze them in freezer bags in portions, I buy them from the indian supermarket because they are cheaper.
*wonders when they will make dressing gowns acceptable day wear?*

Was clearing out my store cupboard and found several half packets of beans that need using up. Having read this thread have now boiled them up and am in process of freesing them for a later date. Thanks for all the tips here.

I don't really like beans all that much and I find a whole tin of beans (even a small tin) too much to cope with. So I started batch cooking and freezing in small quantitites. The very small freezer containers from Lakeland are perfect for this.

Once I started doing this I found I liked the taste better than tinned beans
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Another option is to just soak the beans, then freeze them. The freezing softens them up a bit more so they cook more quickly (especially in the pressure cooker).
