OP you have a family, you have friends, you have people who care about you.

You have warm shelter, food in your belly, a bed to sleep in, a bathroom to keep yourself clean, probably access to television and other entertainments, and you even get money for sitting at home all day... and yet you seem to have failed to grasp how fortunate you actually are.

Until you have seen your currency devalued so quickly that a day's wages no longer buys a single loaf of bread or have met men living on the streets or sleeping in toilets because they have tried to find a higher paying job in a different country away from their families - your circumstances are luxurious in comparison.

You know we may be no-marks in your book but the difference between us no-marks (that is some sort of derogatory remark, yes?) and you, is that a lot of us have had our own businesses; have been rich; have tried very, very hard to keep everything together; and have seen bankruptcy as an absolute last resort - oh and one other thing most of us are not tied to our possessions because we know that even though we have failed once that there is nothing post bankruptcy that we can not overcome to become successful and prosperous again.

  • ...........so dont reply as i wont read it. i would like to sincerely thank everyone who has given me some valuable advice and wish everyone on here good luck and prosperity in the future. i would like to urge you all however that the next time someone comes on here asking for some advice from someone a little further down the road of bankruptcy, just answer the question! maybe tell them that its not very easy to dupe the OR and leave it at that. Instead of questioning how hard up they are, i'm bankrupt! like you i am bankrupt, so how hard up do you think i am. And seriously whether you were once rich and owned a chain of stores or if when you were 16 you got a store card charging 40%, then got kicked out by your parants house for wearing your mums knickers, you cant pay your bills and arrive at the same place! get over youselves. xx.

TBH I dont see any gains from involving myself in a slanging match, so here are some facts.

Assets of value can be considered by the OR, may take them or may not.
The OR can access any information they require for their investigations so keeping secrets will only delay the inevitable. If you do not co-operate fully with the OR or they believe that you are somewhat blameworthy for your position then they can apply for a Bankruptcy Restrictions Order.

Thankyou all for your rapid responses.

    Here's a little more info about my situation;

rent until i find a job is nil (at parents! nice of them to put me up in my hour of need but believe me it has it's drawbacks)

When i do find work would it be easy to claim i pay more rent to them than i actually do? or will proof be needed? i.e. a receipt of some sort! that way i could have savings that the OR and bank don't know about!

Will receipts be needed for travel expenses. Can i claim that i take the train more frequently than i actually do? to visit girlfriend/family ect. is traveling to watch my football team play deemed unnecessary. ditto with the season ticket!

i have a contract phone - needed for hunt for work and for work contacts - same with broadband! will they insist i give up my contract phone even as it is probably cheaper than pay as you go.

the only outstanding bills i have since bankruptcy are phone/broadband/travel and football. And obviously food and clothing!

    Cheers

so basically lie, lie and lie again?:p lol :rotfl:Just be honest and show your actual income and outgoings. They are very decent and allow quite a lot from my experience, I was allowed to put quite a lot. You could pay your parents rent and in theory if they wanted to they could give it to you for christmas this year or something?! Just put something realistic and it is ok. I presume that you have already done all of this?

What I did was I basically earnt what I needed. I am self employed though. So I earnt up to the allowances and then stopped working for the money because there was no point me working for it to be taken away, so maybe get a lower paid job for now because the way I see it why work extra for extra money for you not to see it?

"so basically lie, lie and lie again?:p lol :rotfl:"

That unfortunately is what has p*ssed people off, the £35K to get out of bed attitude, and the "I have lost everything - please feel sorry for me".

If he is for real, then he is setting himself up for a lot of trouble even post bankruptcy - from what I can see he is quite young, he is coccooned by his mum and dad, and he possibly didn't think through bankruptcy before doing it. I truly hope he has a lightbulb moment and can find his way out of this.

philnicandamy - I did wonder why he was unhappy living with his mum and dad...

It does not do to assume. We only get to read what the OP wants us to know, that goes for a lot of us,we are not all saints, but neither are we devils.
