Hi all,
I'm having a small birthday party for my 2 year old next thursday. The age range of children will be 20 months to 7 years old. The 7 year old who is coming is seriously allergic to eggs and nuts which means he won't be able to have any cakes. I thought I would make some rice crispie buns and sandwiches are no prob...cheese/ham/jam. I'll do some crudites and houmous and some olives as my 2 year old loves those. Maybe some chicken drumsticks and some sausage rolls. Savoury stuff is covered really. Crisps too...
I could do with another idea or two for sweet foods if anyone is feeling inspired :-)
Ta ever so.

How about flapjacks? I think they're basically golden syrup and oats, aren't they? Maybe you could add in some raisins for extra taste?
Just a thought.:oIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Hi
You could make flapjacks as they are sweet and don't contain eggs, biscuits too. As a vegan all of my cakes are egg and usually nut free. Sometimes you can just substitute banana for the egg. It won't rise as much but will hold together OK.
This is the cake I have made for my son's birthday every year since he was 2 and it always gets eaten...
Carrot and banana cake
8oz flour
2tsp baking powder
2tsp cinnamon
8oz carrots grated
3oz marg/butter
2tbs veg. oil
3oz brown sugar
4tbs syrup or honey
2 mashed bananas
2tbs soya milk (milk would be OK)
1 tsp vanilla essence.
oven to 170C GM3. Mix dry ingredients and carrots. Melt marg and stir in wet ingredients. Pour the wet into the dry, beat well, it should be quite a heavy mix. Put in an 8"cake tin and bake for approx 1 hour 10 minutes. Test with a knife or skewer it won't come out clean but shouldn't be wet. It benefits from some icing or frosting.
Hope this helps

If you do a search for egg free recipes, Thriftlady has a great recipe for egg free choc buns - I made these recently for the Squirrels because we have one with an allergy and the kids loved them.“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

my son loves strawberries covered in choc0 -
Here's my chocolate bun recipe courtesy of Marguerite Patten's The Victory Cookbook;) Make buttercream icing for extra festiveness.
I think your menu sounds great. My dd is allergic to eggs and nuts too although the egg allergy is gradually going and eggy cakes are now tolerated.0 -
Fabulous ideas everyone. Have had a quick scan and am now off to bath the kids :-)
Will study them at greater length later but all sound FAB!
Cheers
