Hi,
I have an ongoing IPA (early discharge from bankruptcy in Nov 2008) and due to being redundant last month, I informed my IP as soon as I received heard the news. The IP said he would look into it and mentioned that it might not be cost-effective for them to maintain the IPA. I also informed my official receiver who simply passed it over to the IP.
Weeks passed without a word, and chased him but without success ("he is off", "he is in a meeting", etc.) and never returned calls.
I don't want to rock the boat by keep chasing him but how can I maintain my IPA if I have no income?
I realise I can lodge a complaint about this IP but I am fearful of starting again!

Before you put in a complaint, have you tried to put your info in writing and send it recorded mail to the IP. Nothing beats info in black and white with proof of posting!!2019 MFW No. 74 £13700/£30000 (45.66%)
12k in 2018 No. 98 £6274.19/£18000 (34.85%)
BTL (start) £97440.00 (current) £68000.00
Residential (start) £275000.00 (current) £268000.000 -
Stop paying it. They will soon contact you asap.
But, I would write and complain (recorded) as mentioned above and also state in there that you will be stopping the IPA as you have no income - just so that they know.0 -
Yep proof of postage for letters both to IP and OR, also an email to IP (which was then acknowledged).
I don't want to cause any trouble with my non-payment (today is my first!) despite having no income and I did receive no confirmation or anything from IP saying that I am allowed to stop paying.
This really sucks.0 -

I was paying a nil tax IPA but when my housing benefit was cut as a result I contacted the OR. They said they would be in touch. In the meantime, I stopped paying. I heard nothing back from the OR despite emailing them twice. However, as soon as Moon Beever wrote to me saying I had missed # number of payments, I emailed them back, cc'ing the OR, explaining why I wasn't paying. I heard back from the OR within a couple of days, asking for proof that my HB had been lowered because of the IP and they said I didn't have to pay anymore.
So basically, wait til they start chasing you for the payment as you can prove you contacted them, etcGet free advice before embarking on bankruptcy: CCCS 0800 138 1111 National Debtline 0808 808 4000

Many thanks Merry for your post - very good to hear that!

I had a nil tax code too but only for the current tax year (which finished the other day!) so we will see what happens.
