they did it as that store was doing well and making profits - some of them were it was just company as a whole that was failing. its really great that its running as town didnt have any other stores like that and far better than an empty store like everywhere else still seems to have.
I went to the Huddersfield one before all fuss about it surviving started well over a year ago and have to admit that it was always full of people buying stuff. Since they went under I have always wondered why someone did not start up a similar company with stores only on those towns where it had done well. I'm sure there must have been a quite few more hotspots for woollies around the country. I don't know if Wellorths have set up shop in Huddersfield but if they have, I reckon they would make buckloads of cash there.

I agree - 18 months on and I still miss ours! Not everyone has a car/access to big supermarkets....

The Gillingham Kent one is now a 99p store
  • The Grimsby one is going to be another fashion store.

It should've in my become a Poundland or Home Bargains store as there's none of those stores in Grimsby as yet.

I had never set foot into a 99p store until out Woolies became one, I think they're great, loads of bargains to be had. Our one is absolutely packed all the time so they must be doing something right. There are also Poundlands opening for the first time. We are so spoiled for choice now!! lol.
A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.

My local Woolies has been turned into a Poundshop and though I love shops like poundland this one doesn't reach that standard at all.

And as if that wasn't bad enough they don't even have the decency to take down the Woolworths Local sign.

I wish somebody would do something about it as our town looks like a ghosttown without a decent shop in the very heart of it.
Its better to be late in this life than early in the next one.

    Slow down speed kills.

Wrexham woolies is still empty (along with loads of other empty shos on the high street). I've not heard any rumours about it's future.
