Does anyone else have knee pain when on stairs?

I've recently found that climbing and coming downstairs is painful (am in my late 40's).
Both knees though particualarly my left one have been troublsome for a good many years. (that said, apart from a diagnoses of pre-patellar bursitis years ago my GP found the joints work as they should - at least when I'm lying down they do!!). When bent (as in a squat or kneeling down it's another story).
Does anyone else have this problem? I thought I might try chondroitin and or glucosamine, but don't want to waste my money or GP's time if they're going to send me away again.

A good orthopedic surgeon fixed mine.
Two new joints and a full revision on one after eleven very active years.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
I am actually in huge amounts of pain in my left knee and stairs are a huge problem. I doubt I will get a knee replacement as I am only 34 but I have the hospital next week so fingers crossed...they have to do something anyway as I can't go on like this
anyways..aside from my prescribed painkillers (of which I take 18 a day:eek: ), I also take Glucosamine, Cod Liver Oil and Omega 3 and can hand on heart say they made a difference. If I forget to take them in the morning then I sure as hell notice later on in the day.
I would defo recommend them.0 -
Thanks for that loopy girl, I guess I'm lucky that the majority of the time I'm not in pain.
It's only been this past few days that this problem has occurred and it has improved slightly  .
It's impossible to give it the rest it needs, so I walk up and down stairs as little as I can and one at a time! Can't believe how much more tiring that is though! I'm still hoping it's temporary but will buy some glucosamine tomorrow. I do get joint pains from time to time in one of my thumbs (quite severe) and shoulders but they always go away thank goodness. I've just started taking omega 3 again.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you next week and hope they can offer effective treatment this time.:wave:0 -
Yeah me too. I have rheumatoid arthritis so this is with me all the time. Im only 30 and hate to think what it may be like when im older. I take Glucosimine(sp?) and cod liver oil to help. but I do also have Morphine Injections also.
If its cold, I would reccoment wrapping a Tubi(sp?) around your knees, 1 to help keep them warmer, and 2 for a bit more support as sometimes my knees give out when im walking. Not give out totally but rather just decide to click out (hope that makes sense).
I work in a hotel and there is a flight of stairs between floors, sometimes I can be hobbling up them for a while. Try the tablets, and the tubi grips (are they still called that?) and see how you get on.I know my spelling is shocking  It is alot better than it used to be though :rotfl:0 -
Hi
I have intermittent joint pain but very little really. I've taken cod liver oil for around 10 years but ran out and then forgot for about 2-3 months. After about 8 weeks I noticed that I had more crepitus (joint clicking) though not always painful it was a bit alarming. After going back on the cod I then noticed a great improvement after 3 days or so. I think it'll take a few weeks yet to get back to where I was.
I have kinda proved the effectiveness of cod liver oil to myself recently and will not run out again

Oh my I found someone who has described my pain :T thank you.
do your knees creek and make a weird noise too? and do the muscles just above the knee hurt as well, mine have been like this since January and my GP has been asked by one of my consultants to refer me to a osteopath, but she refuses.
I'm off to the eye hospital this morning with suspected flair up of my Uvities so will tell them as they want to monitor any problems i have, having one immune disease is not the done thing now, they tell me you will get others
All i get at the mo is doctors checking my reflexes every doctor / hospital visit. like you have said its all fine lying down its the stairs that's a killerLife is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -
I've bought a Seven seas combo that was on special at Tesco and a proper knee support and am hoping that will help.
Above the knee is OK at the moment. When climbing or descending stairs the pain is on the front of knee (kneecap?) but either side of the kneecap is feels a bit tender when pressed. Both are starting to click and crack a bit.
I'm fine walking but driving is becoming uncomfortable (clutch action). Warmth makes it feel a bit better too.
I may have to give in and see the quack, but not till I've no other choice.
Paparika - hope you appt at the eye hospital went ok?:wave:0
