Spilt oil on jumper - sorted without any washing!

I'm sure there must be some posts about this trick somewhere, but I have no heart to wade through the mse index... :o

So here it is. While having dinner - a hearty salad with extra virgin olive oil dressing - I spilled a big dollop of oil on my pink jumper. I was swearing at the thought of having to wash it again, as I put it on clean this afternoon, then remembered what my gran used to do, so I rushed to put a dollop of (cheap) talcum powder on the stain to soak it. Left it for 20 minutes and just brushed it well off. Now you can only see the faintest stain if you know where to look.

Saved it from an unnecessary wash. Anyone else use this trick?

Edted much later to add: I forgot to say that I did rub the talcum powder really well into the stain, putting more powder until it didn't show through the white talcum.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

I've used it on a silk blouse before and it worked beautifully :T Another good tip along similarish lines is if you've got candle wax on anything that can take an iron - pick off the solid wax then put brown paper (or blotting type absorbent paper like lining paper) over the waxy stain and iron over it. The heat of the iron makes the wax soak into the paper. I've used this many times on special occassion table cloths :D
  • I have used a little bit of eucalyptus oil rubbed into the oil mark and then wash as normal, it always seems to work.:j
