Company Car Tax

Does anyone know how company car tax works on temporary cars?

For example it may be 6 months before I'm able to order my own car and in the meantime I've been given a hire car which gets changed every month. I understand that I'm liable for tax on this but how will it be calculated when the normal conditions for calculating the tax (ie value and emissions) will be regularly changing?

Thanks in advance.

Your employer will have the responsibility of providing the taxable benefit for these cars on youe P11D. However, you should keeps records of the type of hire cars you had, and for how long.

Keep an eye on the P11D.

I was in a similar situation and the company tracked the various cars by the agreement number so on my P11D there was a list of the various cars and the periods that I had each one for.

The rental agreement must have been used after I left as my P11D showed that I had been using a Peugeot for two months after I left the company.

I pointed this out to HMRC and they amended the total value for the year as my P60 showed that I had started working for the new employer before the Peugeot hire started.
