Which type of Microwave

Can anyone advise me on microwaves.
I have a very basic microwave for heating up things but would be interested to know if those combi microwave oven are as useful as ordinary fan ovens.
Would it be more eonomical on electric?
Instead of putting on the oven for heating breaded chicken breasts, garlic bread etc can u do these in the microwave?
Will they taste as good?
Thanks

If its a combination oven you have three in one oven, microwave, grill, oh and combination thats four! because its smaller than a normal oven it warms up very quickly
cooks quicker and so uses less electricity. Although I dont do the cooking my wife uses it all the time only using the big oven if its a big family meal and the oven is full, and the food is perfect! regards bri

My parents have a similar sort of microwave and hate it. You can put a frozen chicken in and it'll defrost it, cook it, brown it & crisp it but it never tastes the same apparently. Cakes baked in it are ok but Mum rarely uses it for anything other than defrosting bread & re-heating meals now. It may well be that someone else could get a lot more use out of this type so don't be too put off ;) I'd search on a comparrison website any of the models you fancy before purchasing so you can get an idea. Just realised that this is what you're doing asking on here - its late & its been a busy day forgive me :rotfl:

I was given one of these by my dad when I first moved out as didn't have an oven/cooker where I was. I didn't use it that much, but did cook things such as chicken pieces (breaded), kievs, pizza, sausages and fish fingers and couldn't tell the difference between that or a normal oven.

I actually used it today to cook some chicken dippers and they were fine. I must get into the habit of using it more as I live on my own, so putting the main oven on for a few items can't be good!

My own experience, based on having had one for about four months:

It is a bit smaller than a full-sized oven, and that does mean it heats up faster, so it's more economical - but I cook for seven or eight, so most of the bakeware I use won't fit into it, so I end up using my main oven anyway.

I use the convection feature with the timer quite a bit, because it's much more straightforward to use than the timer on my standard oven. I've also taught the kids to use the timer, so if they're making themselves something I don't need to worry about them forgetting about it and burning the house down.

I haven't used the grill feature because...well, I suppose because my ordinary grill (top oven) does the job.

I mainly use it, though, as you would an ordinary microwave - and could have bought an ordinary microwave for a lot less money.

It is handy if I'm making a meal with lots of components - if I've the main oven full, it's useful to have another oven available.

Would I buy it again? On balance, no, I think I'd just go for a standard microwave, because I don't think it's justified the extra expense. But then as I say, I've only had it for a few months - maybe my opinion will change over time.
