Im just curious what the average number of jobs that everyone else applied for before getting 1 interview??
About 3years when i was at college but looking for a weekend job i applied for roughly 1,500 jobs at shops n stuff over a 2year period,
didnt even egt 1 interview.
I went to being self employed for the last 2.5years,
but now as thats too stressful and risky im looking for a job again.
Over the last 5months ive applied for well over 2,000jobs online,
and i havent been selective or snobby or anything like that,
have applied for all just basic average jobs that anyone could do without needing a uni degree or anything,
and yet i still hevent even been offered 1interview.
Is this the same story for the rest of you guys too though??

Wow i'm sorry to hear that it must be soul destroying
Good on you for keeping going & not giving up
Have you reviewed your CV ?
To not get interviews maybe a new CV would help ?
Things are tough out there I think it depends a lot on the area as well, some parts of the country seem very bleak
We have considered relocating as OH can't find anything at the moment
Could you consider moving ?"Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes."
All truth goes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Then, it is violently opposed. Finally, it is accepted as self-evident.0 -
If you apply for that many jobs and get so few interviews either you have a problem with your CV, either that or you are a bit thick.0

The people who do get interviews are those who identify some special skill that is needed to do the job well, and then explain why they have that skill.
No employer ever thinks they are offering "basic average jobs that anyone could do", so if you make it obvious that that is what you think of the opportunity they are offering, you will not get selected.0 -
Hi and thanks for the nice reply from the 1st poster.
Im not going to get into another petite arguement on here with the rude posters sorry, as i spent wayyy to much of my life doing that already. lol
Im happy to post my CV on here for reviews if thats possible,
but to summarise im not ''a thicko''. lol
I have work experience back from when i was 14years old, as i wokred as a volunteer in a charity shop on saturdays, and so gained 2years experience of working in a highstreet shop environment dealing with customers and working the till.
I did my GCSEs at school and got Bs n Cs, went to college and did a double Travel&Toursim A-level course which i got a double pass grade in, did Law A-level which i got a B in, and did spanish GCSE which i got an A in.
I wasnt ever especially interested in education though as i saw it as a waste of time, and instead was always very ambitious with my own businesses.
So i also have 2years expeprience of running a sucessful online clothing retail business & ebay shop while still at college which was making me roughly £120 net profit per week,
i launched and still own a sucessful international shipping company (however its still relatively unheard of although i got prime placement in google search for the main keywords i want),
an then for the last 1year i worked self employed fulltime as a stockmarket trader, trading crude oil futures contracts,
and managed to turn my starting £800 into earning £26,500 by end of year.
So i dont just 'laze about'...
And my mum works in Human Resources recruitment so deals with CVs everyday, and she helped me make my CV when i made it,
so its not some kind of cheap tacky one. lol
And im not some sort of fool who wrote on the tecos application form
''Ok well i used to trade crude oil futures on the international stockmarket, but now i want to downgrade to stacking your shelves and you should choose me cos any plonker could do it''! lol
Im not stuckup or think any job is beneath me regardless of teh money i used to earn and jobs ive done before.
The reason why i have applied largely to 'basic jobs that anyone can do' like working in shops, warehouses, security guard, airport baggage handler, office admin.... ect
Is because they are all jobs i would be qualified for and be able to do well,
Opposed t me applying to be a doctor, scientist, computer engineer or any other jobs which would require university degree or qualifications that i dont have.
And the jobs i apply for online just ask for a CV and cover letter (i have 6 different cover letters for each different sector of job i could apply for)
For my life career i want to work in the police, i wanted that since i was 8years old and still now do at 19.
But untill/unless i manage to get that im looking for any sort of job that i can get to just pay my rent and food bills so i dont become homeless.
(Which is extremely close so making my life be in constant fear currently)
This thread wasnt really to ask 'how can i get more interviews', since i know that im doing all that i can do to maximise my chances of getting one,
while still trying to manage to earn enough to keep myself off the streets.
Im just curious if this is what its like for everyone else though. X0 -
Get out and about and hand out your CV to local shops.
Applying to 1,000 jobs and not getting a single interview does point to something being wrong with your CV.0 -

(CV in screenshots. Its only 3pages long, but i had to break it into 4 screenshots. And the bit at the top that i left out is just my personal details).
And heres my main cover letter

Dear Sir / Madam
I am writing to you regarding the position that was recently advertised, and would be most grateful if you would consider my application for this role.
I currently have 2years experience of running an online international shipping business where I gained an extensive skill-set in relation to data entry, customer service, computer skills and sales.
1years experience in stock-market futures trading, during which I developed a high level of knowledge about the financial industry.
And 2years of experience working in a highstreet shop as a sales assistant, rising to sales supervisor, where I gained experience in customer service and people management.
I would now very much appreciate the opportunity to work for your company so I can apply these skills to the job.
I’ve included a copy of my CV, and would be grateful if I could be considered for the position.
Thank you0 -
Just an idea but do you think you might be aiming too low when applying for jobs?
My friend has just gone back to work after leaving her job when she fell pregnant (baby is now 18 months) and it has taken her 9 months to find a job! She was applying for jobs that she would feel "comfortable" doing as she didn't want a pressurised job but she didn't even get to the interview stages! And no sooner did she apply for a job which challenged her a bit, the interviews came rolling in...
Best of Luck anyway xx0 -
Assuming that you still own your business so there are no gaps in your CV I would certainly leave out the almost whole page dedicated to you playing the stock market.
You did Travel in tourism in college, you have good marks in Latin, French and spanish, you were a floor manager elbeit in a shop but you have experience of being in charge of staff.
Have you thought of being say a restaurant manager? or hotel assistant manager? Your experience of dealing with international companies and the ability to speak other languages would be invaluable in a hotel environment. (both to deal with guests and the international staff)
Tailor your applications specifically for the job you are applying, if you sent that CV for a Barman or office job, they would see straight off you have just attached your CV and not thought about the requirements of the job.
Hope to help0
