at the end of the day though, it doesn't matter how much training the optical assistants have had, you need to find an optometrist you trust and are comfortable with. All optoms have had the same training, but like any human beings, you will "click" better with some than others.

take recommendations about individual optometrists, not stores, as experiences will vary dpending on who you see.

and remember "cheapest" is not always best. those who charge more for their time will often have more time to spend with you, discussing your past problems and making sure you get the best solution this time :)

I would agree 100% with this.

High street chains employ a lot of people, and so there will always be a much higher turnover of staff, as people come, go, and move on up through the managerial structure.

Like all healthcare things, maintaining a relationship with an individual who gets to know your eyes and your preferences over a long period of time will, in the end, be better for you than seeing a different person every time you go.

This sort of relationship will be much more likely to be found in a small independently owned opticians than in the chains.

Yes - they may be a bit dearer, (not always though) but you'll be much more likely to find someone interested in making your visit a good experience. They have the mortgage on the place!!!
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

my husband had had very good experiences with boots (for both glasses and contact lenses) and won't go anywhere else. he did try the opticians at tesco but they gave really poor service.
Not buying clothes for a year - it's liberating!
