Edinburgh ear-piercing - where's best?
My 11 year old daughter wants to have her ears pierced in the Easter holidays - can anyone recommend somewhere in Edinburgh that is safe, efficient and, most of all, clean?
She had a bad experience years ago - lots of blood and pus (yuk) despite scrupulous aftercare on our part - so we had to let the holes close up. She now feels ready to give it another try:eek:. That time it was done at Claires Accessories though to be honest we felt the holes were actually not at the same spot in each earlobe and the aftercare was a very abrupt assistant telling us once they pierced them it was nothing to do with them! I've actually had a look recently at the Claires piercing station and it had used rubber gloves and cotton wool lying on it - bottom line we don't want to go to Claires!
Someone mentioned Jenners to her - has anyone any experience of there or possibly the jewellers at the Gyle? I know in other threads people mention tattoo parlours but not sure where to try really.

My DD had hers done in a specialist piercing place, here in Dundee, the guy spent what seemed like ages getting the dots just right, then did them with a 'gun' he said anything above the neck they were not allowed to freeze, so just to warn her no freeze will be given.
I hope you find somewhere in Edinburgh, the piercing place gave my DD clear instructinos and fluid to clean her ears with, and thankfully she had no problems. Hope yours goes well, fwiw I had mine done twice, was too young when I had then done first and had to let them close up,got them done again later and they were find.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Hi ljw
My daughter had her ears pierced at Claires in Ocean Terminal and we had absolutely no problems at all. The girls were nice and they cleaned and disinfected their hands and the piercing station before anything else. They wore gloves and disposed of them correctly afterwards. They marked dots on my daughter's ears before piercing and asked me if I was happy with where they were. I wasn't and had some input into where I thought they should be so they were moved slightly. I think that your daughter has had a bad experience and that is a shame.
However, I went to Jenners to have my ears pierced and they were really good (it was before Claires was invented and when Jenners was privately owned) I can't say what they are like now since they have become House of Fraser owned but I reckon they will still be good. They do have a good reputation and they won't want to ruin that.
A lot of hairdressers also do it. You could look for one you feel is clean and professional.
The bottom line is to make sure your daughter cleans her ears and earrings every day with the solution she is given and to make sure she washes her hands before and after touching her ears. (I'm not suggesting for one minute that she didn't do that before, I am just reinforcing the importance of following the instructions you should be given at the time of piercing).
Good luck and I hope you find somewhere suitable :jMortgage at 12/07/2022 = £175,000

I was in Claires in Glasgow with my eleven year old when I saw a poor wee girl probably not even two getting her ears pierced...I was not impressed. How do you know these people are properly trained? Do they use gold studs? If I was you I would check with some of your daughters' friends parents and see if they can recommend anywhere. My daughter also wants her ears done but we are waiting until the summer and her Gran knows somewhere but we are not in Edinburgh. I would perhaps try a reputable hairdressers (thats how I got mine done a long, long time ago!!) or a reputable jewellers may do ear piercing. My 11 year old daughter wants to have her ears pierced in the Easter holidays - can anyone recommend somewhere in Edinburgh that is safe, efficient and, most of all, clean?

Thanks for the replies - we decided to bite the bullet and go to Jenners and all went well:j. It was done in a very professional and hygienic way and not by a "child" while sitting in the shop window which is what happens in Claires. The holes are in the same spot in each ear this time as well - always a bonus!!!!
I can't really blame Claires for the infection my daughter got last time - it happened about 2 months after the piercing after weeks of scrupulous aftercare - but I wasn't happy with the attitude of the staff. I think the uneven holes happened because 2 girls did it at the same time and basically one of them got it wrong!0 -
Glad it went ok this time round. I have to go through all of that with my daughter in the summer...unless she changes her mind.0
