NEW uses for the slowcooker!

Good morning! Earlier in the year, thriftlady had a comment in her sig, the jist of which was that slowcookers weren't the answer to everything. This has had me thinking, and I've come up with some novel uses for the humble SC; those of us who use SCs just for cooking are missing a trick :D
  • I cycle to work, and at this time of year, it's nippy first thing. Could I put my socks in the SC overnight and have toasty tootsies on the way to the office :j
  • When we have an Indian meal, we tend to eat with our hands, but the conventional finger bowl is a bit small. How about a SC in the middle of the table to keep the water warm, for everyone to use :j
  • Conventional oil burners can struggle to fragrance a large room. How about a SC of water and a few drops of fragranced oil to give a lovely aroma to the whole house :j
  • Parsley seeds are notoriously difficult to germinate; older gardening books recommend running boiling waterdown the trench before planting. How about keeping the seeds snug in the SC overnight, and they'll be raring to go in the morning :j
I must stress that I've not tried any of these ideas myself, so do take care if you try them before I do ;) Anyone have any other new suggetsions to get the most out of neglected kitchen gadgets

How about using it as an extra large fondue bowl? Still wouldn't be big enough in our house though!! :P

We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

I believe that its possible to soak your dingy whites in the SC with a scoop of washing powder. After 12 hours they come up beautifully ;);););) :rotfl:

Now that one's actually quite a good idea;)

I've been scratching my head for good ideas and the only thing I've come up with is this -put all your veg and fruit peelings in the slow cooker if you don't have a compost heap. I'm sure the heat would act as an accelerator and you'll have almost instant compost;)

Love this thread idea, thanks PenPen!

Not really a neglected gadget, but an alternative use, I used the hand blender to mix my wallpaper paste! Magic, no lumps :o)

I was struggling to find the right hat to coordinate with my chocolate brown suit when I attended a christmas wedding. Imagine my surprise and delight when I found my morphy richards 2.5 l oval ceramic dish was a perfect match. Not only did I look like a cat walk model I also had very warm ears for 8 hours. Gosh the wonders of a slow cooker.

I don't fancy the idea or using it to fragrance a room and then cooking a meal in it. _pale_

That's alright ;) As long as you don't mind eating from it after I've warmed my socks in there :D
