Take care of yourself Look Ahead - you should feel really proud of yourself for actually DOING something about your situation. Maybe as spring comes your luck will change - its always easier to see things positively when the sun's shining :T0

Hiya, :grouphug:
I know exactly what you mean, (as I'm sure everyone on this board does too!!). Cars are defo a nightmare. Personally, I find trying to save any money really hard, I am managing it a bit but it's money earmarked for stuff and not just rainy day money iykwim. I dunno, *sigh*, I do count my blessings but sometimes it gets a bit monotonous doesn't it??

Keep going LookingAhead at least your debt figure has gone down and not up, so that is a good sign. A couple of days ago I was told that I will be made redundant in August. I knew it was coming, but just as I was seeing our debts coming down, I now wonder what will happen once August comes. On the other hand 6 months is quite a while and it will make me work harder to get the debts cleared quicker, and I am sure something else will come up. So not too worried, most of the time I am an optomist and see the glass as half full, not half empty.0

Thanks everyone, it's good to know sometimes that you're not the only one who feel like that. Of course I don't wish money worries on *anyone*...but the feeling of "Is it just me???" can be so depressing at times.
Really sorry to hear about your redundancy Peppa Pig....I hope you can find something else with the 'notice' that you do have. Good luck with grinding down the debts in the meantime though.
Thanks again everyone.

Things always happen in 3's in my house - I needed a new hoover, fridge freezer and a new television all within the space of 3 weeks - they all broke down , started leaking and blew up! 6 months later the iron blew up, the radiator on the car got a hole in it and needed replacing and then the tumbler dryer timer stopped working- so yes, I know what you mean!
These things would have happened anyway, regardless of whether you were trying to get debt free or not. That doesn't really help in your quest to be get the debt down, I know, but in previous times you probably would have put the expenses on the credit card and not thought anything more about it. At least now, you are aware of what you are putting on your credit card and being aware is part of the process to getting debt free. You can do it, just treat these as minor set backs. Could you consider getting rid of the car if its costing so much in maintenance?
How about saving a small amount per week/month that you could put towards things like this happening? I know you say you would feel better paying off your credit card, but mentally its nice knowing that you can pay for a new iron, with cash, and not having to add it to the debt that you already have.
Good luck on the relationship front - could you consider doing things as a couple, that doesn't cost anything - walks in the park, visiting friends, seeing family, visiting the bedroom.......... etc!Nice Shoes & Expensive Designer Handbags, are my downfall!0 -
More steps back.... was just doing nicely squirreling some money away into the mortgage when DH noticed the chimney over our bed was leaning over. Builder said yes, it was dangerous. Cost to pull down and make safe - approx £10,000.
Then a nosy neighbour told the builders our cottage is listed (it isn't). We rang the council to check, and they told us we had to have the chimney rebuilt as it's above the skyline in a conservation area. (No regard taken of the fact that next door have already taken THEIR chimney down, which of course we were too nice to mention. Conservation area.....grrrrr.......they don't care about PVC windows......)
Cost of rebuilding - ANOTHER £2500 plus VAT.
Just as well we've got a flexible mortgage. But IT'S NOT FAIR!!!!Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -

Also I am thinking your home sounds beautiful and it sounds like it's in a gorgeous place...so you have to spend it to keep it lovely & stay there. Maybe you will get cheaper quotes..??Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

NiceShoes - thank you for your post, it made me smile - especially the bit at the end!

Well I have made a start with the £2 thing....and I do have a spreadsheet which stretches out to about August so I know what money comes in & out, we try and cut back on the gorceries all the time and whatever money I can spare, I am now *trying* to put into a cash mini ISA. I have £10 in it at the moment wooo hooo! Do you think I should put that in my signature??
But I *do* know what you mean - it is always nicer to pay for things cash then use plastic. I agree!Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.
