I also found some advice on another website about giving signatures - some people print their names, others sign them over a pattern or sign them on a dark-coloured piece of paper so it's hard to photocopy them.

And here's a template for a response to a refused offer:

    Dear Sir / Madam ,

    Re ACCOUNT NUMBER:

Thank you for your letter of xx/xx/xx concerning the above account.

I/We am/are are sorry that you feel unable to accept the offer have made. The majority of my/our other creditors have accepted the offers made to them and I/we have commenced payments.

I/We cannot offer you more because I/we can only afford £x per month between all the other creditors, and it would be wrong to cease or reduce payments to all other creditors in favour of your company. The offer made to you is on a pro rata basis, as used by the county court.

In the light of the other creditors agreeing to my/our repayment plan, please would you reconsider my/our offer. I/We will be making the payments in line with the offer to your company, on a weekly/monthly basis, as a gesture of goodwill.

I/We look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.

    Yours faithfully

If it's passed to a debt collection agency then interest is frozen?

Just found an answer to my own question (at least, for going to court anyway!) It's all starting to seem a lot less scary now ...

Thank you for your letter of xx. We are very disappointed that we seem unable to reach a satisfactory compromise in this case.

As we have already explained, we can only afford £xx per month at the present time, and we feel that it is pointless paying this amount to you only to see the debt increase. We invite you therefore to sue us for the debt, when we shall have the opportunity of offering £xx per month through the courts. In addition, once judgment is granted we understand that further interest will be suspended in any event.

It seems that we can only achieve a reasonable outcome to this matter by allowing the courts to decide, although this will involve us both in extra expense and time wasted with court proceedings.

The offer of £xx per month plus suspension of interest is of course still open to you to accept.

    Yours faithfully

Hi I'm moving over to this thread as we have decided after being with CCCS for about a year, to go it alone. We have done most of the legwork ourselves although had some good advice from CCCS.

We got a call from a solicitor on behalf of LTSB and she said she would freeze the interest on one of our debts if we reduced the payments. Of course this is something we can't do through CCCS which is why we have decided to go it alone. We were just getting nowhere as our monthly payments weren't even covering the interest!

We've been paying our DMP for almost a year and can't believe its taken this long to get a tiny bit of progress, particularly from LTSB, but maybe there is a light at the end of the extremely long tunnel at last.

Hiya, welcome to the thread! LTSB want less money??? They are my main creditor and seem to be a nightmare! They haven't changed the interest on my OD, lowered it quite a bit on my CC, and haven't said what is going on with my loan but I have a feeling they haven't changed the interest and if thats the case my payments won't even make a dent in the interest, let alone the balance! Well done on making progress, keep us informed! Boo.x

    Hi all,

I have had a few positive responses from a couple of my creditors over the past week which had given me a bit of confidence and the feeling that maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel (albeit a long way away!). However having just spoken to Barclaycard I feel like I am banging my head against a brick wall. They have said that they will not accept a self-managed DMP and that I must go through the CCCS or similar. Has anyone else been advised of this? There is no way that I can afford the minimum payment that they are saying they can accept - and apparently the only way to reduce the payment further is to go through the CCCS.....

Is this one of the instances where I just have to ride it out until it goes to a DCA?

Feeling really bad now and could happily just sit and cry :-( It makes me feel even worse because I then find myself getting short tempered and snappy with my children and thats the last thing that I want to do....

I had a similar problem with Barclaycard. I made a complaint to the Ombudsman about their ignoring recorded delivery letters I could prove they had received ,(after exhausting their complaints procedure) about my dmp and they did eventually agree to my self managed dmp but then sold the debt on a month later to RMA dca!
I made a CCA request to RMA which they were unable to fufill. You can guess the rest.

Well we've done it, I called CCCS today and told them that May would be our last payment through them and that we are going it alone from next month.

Funnily enough look at the date of our lightbulb moment! Freaky or what:eek:

I have a self managed DMP with Barclaycard so they must be able to d them. In fact they were one of my easier crediors to deal with...Ithink that it was actually orginally arranged over the phone after i had sent all my info. I would keep on at them.
I know this is hardat times i just feel soalone but there is always light at the end of the tunnel
