'Reasonable' priced highland wear to hire in Midlands.

Options
As soon as my OH announced he would like to attempt to make an honest woman out of me he mentioned wanting to do this wearing full Highland wear. He is looking at wanting a Black Argyll Jacket with black spirit kilt. The shirt will be black as will the socks, the colour will come from a red rouche/cravat and red silk/hanky in pocket.

Having looked at Formal affair and a local mens wear hire store specializing in formal wear i realise there is quite a bit of difference in the pricing.

Does anywhere locally know of any stores i may not be aware of that hire highland wear? I am based in Tamworth if this helps so would need to be in a reasonable radias to make it beneficial - but it does not neccesarily need to be the cheapest just be able to offer the full outfit.

The only problem i am facing at the min is a stroppy 13yo who point blank refuses to wear a 'skirt'. So any recomendations on stores that also stock the childrens end of clothing including the trews would be most helpful.

Formal Affair are pretty cack (I have peered through their shop window in Birmingham - everything looks grubby).

    Try Slaters - https://www.slaters.co.uk

They have a branch in Cannon Street Birmingham and the chap to speak to is Rob Mill who is the Hirewear advisor - tel: 0121 533 3855

Slaters provided all the kilts etc for the guys doing security at the National Wedding Fair at the NEC.

My H2B is looking to wear the same 'ensemble' (except the cravat will be purple). He is struggling at the moment to find anyone who has one he can try on. Moss Bros and Debenhams do it but will only order it in for the wedding itself. I will try slaters instead as we are also from West Midlands. Good luck!

The very nice gentleman we are curently speaking to at tops and tails in Tamworth has asked his supplier to send down samples of kilts for us to choose from as the colours do vary from the pictures to the fabric swatches it may now mean we have to consider the grey spirit rather than black spirit to save looking as though he has just come from a funeral.

The book price is £109 each outfit however because we are having 3 adult and 1 child he is going to barter with his supplier to get he price down some more - ALL his highland wear is sent down from Scotland!

He has plenty of rouched ties in aswell to get the idea of what colour you need, alternatively he can make one up from a sample of fabric to match you colours exactly as i were concerned the reds may not be of a shade to match everything else on the day.

I got married at the end of June and we managed to get finde kilt hire for £29 a person. Considering that we had 5 guys to kit out the saving was huge. We got the outfits delivered to our hotel and picked up again which kind of took the stress out of that part of the day. If you go for these guys and you need advice ask for Agnes she dealt with us and really helped when we were unsure. The site is a1kilthire.co.uk and if you want to speak to agnes she was on 01382 459 389 I think !!!

Burton do a kilt called 'black island' - I'm not well up on kilts, but googled black spirit kilts and they look pretty similar!
Their premium Highland Wear package, including" Any Highland Wear Jacket, Highland Waistcoat, any Kilt, Highland Accessory Pack: Sporran & Chain, Belt & Buckle, Skean Dhu, Ghillie Brogues, Hose (to keep: Black, Cream or Charcoal), Flashes, Kilt Pin,
any Shirt & any Neckwear" is £90, but they do a groom goes free when ordering 4 other sets.
If you don't need as many as that, try grabbing a student and getting their 10% discount! As I'm a student that's what we did  We're having boring old Prince Edwards though! Here is the link http://www.burton.co.uk/formalhire/BurtonFormalHireBrochure.pdf and price list http://www.burton.co.uk/formalhire/BurtonFormalHirePricelist.pdf

Thanks for the input however we have decided to go with a local formal mens wear store as he is able to get us what we want and offer the discounts usually applied to bigger parties, plus has secured a pair of trews for my one son as he doesnt feel comfortable wearing a kilt.
