:j Got paid yesterday, checked my balance and I'm £20 odd in the black - first time in 10 years. Next month I will be completely free and can start saving for my next car and overpaying my mortgage. I celebrated by applying to A&L immediately, got accepted this morning so that's £100 plus an extra £50 for doing it via Quidco. Mind you, I've have done it for free just to escape the NatWest. This time last year the light at the end of the tunnel was a tiny speck and now my head at least has emerged from the dark.

Great news! Enjoy the feeling. Good to see you're applying the DFW ways to saving - you'll get to your goals much sooner!

Thanks guys! It wasn't a vast amount, about £8000, but seemed like an unsurmountable mountain and having been brought up to save and regard debt as a disgrace, I was actually quite ashamed. Yes, I did use DFW methods to beat it, although in reverse if you like. I snowballed, but paid off the smallest debt first (credit card) which freed up more money each month to pay the next debt, before I tacked the overdraft. I also had a bit of luck in that the sole cause of my problems has begun costing me a little less every month, and it has really made a difference. The funny thing though is, now I've got used to just not really spending anything other than on essentials, I've almost got paranoid about going into a shop!0
