I found a lovely site the other day and it was full of links to eco wedding suppliers with ratings to show how green they are.Love lots of them.http://www.greenunion.co.uk/weddings/8000our_partners/index.html

I realised my wedding is pretty green already but it got me thinking about other ways to make it more so.Potted plants or flowers cut from local gardens/nurseries rather than imported blooms, recycled or handmade paper for invites, organic fabrics in ribbons and even the dress, using local services as far as possible and using one venue for the whole wedding will cut down on pollution from vehicles.
Anyone else going green or having eco friendly elements in their wedding?

This computer is not my friend today, I keep replying and losing it (the last time was totally my fault).
We are doing a fair few green things but there's always room for improvement. We've got locally sourced organic food, local drink, no favours to minimise waste, sheep poo paper guest book, seasonal flowers, honeymooning in UK on public transport.
Ethical Weddings (http://www.ethicalweddings.com/) and Eco My Party (http://www.ecomyparty.co.uk/) are good sources too.Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!

We are getting our wine from a local winery, cairn'o'mohr, and picking it up on the way to the venue so thats another thing which could be considered green.
I suppose quite a few money saving brides will end up with a fairly green wedding without trying just by using local suppliers, local produce etc in an effort to save money."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
That's where we're getting our wine from too, our beer is coming from Brewdog in Aberdeenshire, also cost-cutting as we know one of their PR people.
I think you're right about people who are going for money-saving weddings ending up being green as well. Even things like ebaying stuff afterwards means things are getting reused rather than binned. We're using taxis rather than fancy cars but I'm sure a modern taxi is cleaner and greener than a classic car ( I'm sure purists would say a lot of what we are doing is just tokenism but every little helps.Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!

Our wedding will be quite green. We are both veggies, and are planning to have our reception at home, with a vegatarian buffet done by a local caterer. We don't plan to have a wedding list, but are going to suggest that guests could make a charitable donation if they would like. I think there are strong links with moneysaving and greenness. I can't stand the thought of having stuff that will just be used for a day and dumped. I'm looking for dyeable shoes that can be dyed black and worn out at night, and - although I'm buying a dress from new, we'll find a way of recycling it I think.
I hadn't thought of sourcing invites that are ethically produced, but I like that idea. I also like the idea of telling guests about public transport links, to make it easier to travel that way if they want.0 -
Ooh that sounds lovely ruthie. I'm a vegetarian but my fiance isn't so we're having meat, but I was insistent we had good veggie stuff though.
My shoes aren't especially weddingy so I plan on wearing them lots afterwards, I don't know what I'll do with the dress but certainly won't be doing a trash the dress thing, if I don't want to keep it I would like someone else to use it, whether that be by selling it or donating it to a charity shop.Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!

I try and be as eco friendly as possible so this is a consideration, and I also found the same website.
I am using a eco friendly stationer who uses recycled materials, im only using locally grown flowers and my place names are going to be recycled wood.
We are trying to use local produce where possible too.
I think all in all its pretty eco friendly:T0 -
We're doing this too. The main thing we're doing is not buying anything that us or someone else can't get use out of afterwards so the favours are all individual presents that people will actually want rather than random tat that people will play with on the day. We've also specified that any leftover food will be taken home by staff they are NOT to waste it. Food is also local and plants will be potted and given away afterwards.
My dress was not ethical. I let myself have the dress with no thought of eco-ness. *shame*
It's actually dead easy to have an eco wedding and it saves money too!0 -
Potted plants instead of cut flowers is a very nice and very green idea.My MIL is doing my flowers and I have given her free reign to do what she wants so I will probably get cut flowers. After I gave her the job I had ideas of what I wanted:rolleyes:.I would love potted african violets as table decorations and give these as favours afterwards.Little pots of mixed lavender and herbs as placecard holders.Big potted ferns to decorate table and chapel.
Oh well, maybe next time:p."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -

My dress isnt ethical either. Well wouldnt say not ethical, just new and designer ..... but off ebay and will get a million further wears!0
