Christening Gifts

Options
I'm going to a double christening at the end of May - a girl and boy (brother and sister). Has anyone got any ideas for gifts (without spending a fortune). I am also to be godmother.
Thanks.

Have you seen nappy cakes?? How about a christening cake with two of everything in. I make them and they are fairly simple if you want to see a pic to get an idea of how to make it just let me know:D
 Thanks to everybody in the crafting threads who inspired me to start my own business!!

As Godmother I'd give them each a bible.
Then if budget allows & depending if they are babies or children get them something they'd like now so they remember christening as a 'good thing' (If babies ££ in an account)

Personally, I don't like all those silver 'things' you see for christenings they tarnish & are rarely appreciated as they get older.

thanks for the ideas. I too don't like the silver things. I had thought of a bible or perhaps a nice prayer or poetry book.

I have never heard of nappy cakes so am going to google them and investigate.

I bought a Harrods beanie teddy bear as a Christening Gift

    http://www.harrods.com/HarrodsStore/find/k/beanie/p/000000000001750181

    It's £7.95 + £4.95 P+P

I put it in a nice box with Tissue Paper looked very smart, looked more expensive than it was.

Last year for my godson we did go overboard, but I made some bunting with his name on in felt, a childrens bible, a welsh love spoon (being of welsh descent) and a Steiff Teddy bear (approx £25), other godparents gave money but I never have and never will give cash as a present

  • I was Godmother to my Nephew last year and I did a cross sitch of a nursery window with the verse below at one side for his bedroom, it's lovely. I also bought him a finger puppet book of Noah's ark. My brother gave him a lovely childrens Bible and my Sister bought a Terrimundu pot that had Christening written on it, they are really nice, I bought one for another Christening in the family and they are not expensive, under £20

As I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my Soul to keep
May Angels watch me through the night and
Gaurd me till the morning light

Alot of people give money too for a bank account but I think the gifts are a really nice keepsake.

    Hope you have fun.

I printed off a lovely Christening poem and personalised it, then framed it for my little Goddaughter. It was extremely cheap (just the price of the frame) and went down a treat!

I can't seem to find the poem just at the moment, but if you're interested, PM me and I'll have a good luck for you-I'm sure I'll find it if I really put my mind to it!! :-)

I always think that a nice book/bible is a lovely Christening gift, especially if you write in it so that they can keep it.

Thank you all for all the ideas. I have decided on two books one with quotations from the bible and the other quotations from various poems regarding birth. I will write a nice inscription in them. Its something they can keep forever and pass on to their children in time.
