Mortgage urgent advice needed

Options
We have just rec'd an offer on our house after only 3 wks on market for full asking price which is great. Entry date however is within the next 6 weeks. I now need to find a house for us to move into which is fine as some we are interested in are empty. However we need to arrange the mortgage. Our current mortgage is with Skipton and they can't get the ball rolling until we go in and see them with the details of the house we want to buy then the application has to be approved by head office. I'm worried this will take forever. Should I go to a mortgage adviser instead? Can I put an offer in on a property without the mortgage being finalised? We live in Scotland.

Most lenders take in to account Scottish law and the time frames involved.

Its been a while but I think Nationwide were good. I would get a broker if your situation is not straight forward. One of the more current brokers on here could give you some advice.
