I need to get a chainsaw, mainly for cutting small logs and pallets, that kind of thing.
It will have to be petrol.
Money is an issue and I'm not sure if the ones for under £100 are any good.
It will only be for occasional use
Is there an expert out there? Any advice would be appreciated

dont get the power devil one at about £80 - i had nothing but trouble with this one and it took forever to get a refund at index where i bought it had shut down but the manufacturer (power devil) wouldnt help as they said it wasnt their responsibility - finally got a full refund from littlewoods......
would never buy anything from power devil again....0 -
I've had a 3 different petrol ones, stihl ones
they are ok if u look after them,
but all of the one I've had break and are too dear to repair so i end up buying new ones,
in the end i got one of the eletric ones, and look out for wood that fits in the boot or tailgate of my car, take it home to cut up0 -
Our Black n Decker is electric - nearly 20yrs old - second chain, but really needs a new bar - so guess it'll be a new saw, instead.
Used for cutting LOADS of rubbish timber for the fire, every winter.
Cost around £60, so a cheapie'll do again!!

I had a few petrol ones but found that for occasional use they were more trouble than they were worth. Bought a Black and Decker electric one about 10 years ago and never looked back - no more 'pre-mix' ! As long as the blade is sharp enough they will cut through anything a petrol one will. Whatever you go for it's definately worth investing £3 on a chainsaw file and sharpening the blades yourself. I'm always amazed by people buying new ones when theirs go blunt - a bit like buying a printer and chucking it out when the ink runs out.Light blue touchpaper and stand well back !0
